I've only raced with Fat Rabbit during the Columbus International in July.

Anyone do this race with them last year or ever?

I'm thinking about doing the Olympic/International distance... A little pricey at $70 for the race... but I guess that is what I get for procrastinating.

I did it a couple years ago. Nice race.  Seem all Fat Rabbit races are run nicely.

Swim??? Out and back, rectangle, a long the beach?

Run?? Do you run through on trail/grass in the park or do you stick to the roads?

Bike... I know the area and know the course from the website description.

Triangle swim.  Run thru the grass path over to the road.

Ugh... UltraFit did that course during the Wendy's last year... It just looked like it was begging for someone to twist and ankle with all the rain run off divits.

Knowing my loose ankles that someone would be me.

I will still have to keep it as an option... Just too tempting to put another Oly on the season to get more experience before my HIM.

I'm thinking about doing the Olympic distance race but I am really slow and am worried about making the cutoff times for the bike and run course. How hard are the cutoffs to make?

The times seem pretty generous to me. This was my 1st Oly ever last year. It took me almost three hours to complete but the course was still open.

I hope the cutoffs are pretty genorous. It normally takes my about 2 and 1/2 hours to do a sprint distance triathlon (I am really slow) so I hope I can make the cutoff in 4 and 1/2 hours. Do they have you wait a long time for wave starts or do you get started right away? Making the cutoff times would be close for me and I would need all the time I could get!

The waves go off about every 3-7 minutes. I say go for it, the worst thing that will hapen is they close the course and you finish the run with me and my family cheering for you.

Thanks for the encouragment I'm going to shoot for doing the olympic triathlon, but if there is no chance of making the cutoffs, I will do the sprint. Do you know, by any chance, how many waves there are?
Thanks!

That's okay. Thanks for the help. Despite the cutoffs, it seems like a great race

I still haven't decided if I am going to enter. It is the classic debate of do I get more experience racing or do I stick to my training plan of a long run on Sunday.

I will hopefully make the decision this weekend.

This race is currently on my schedule as an Oly. I still haven't decided if it will remain an oly or if it will turn into a Sprint.

I had my first race two weekends ago and it was pretty rough, the swim portion anyways. I have another race coming up in two weeks and the swim of that race will help me decide if I am going to do an Oly this year or not. I really wanted to and I was planning on doing two of them in July, but I am starting to rethink that idea.

We will see how things shake out in a couple of weeks.

Well, what did we all decide, to race or not to race? Oly or sprint distance? Just 5 days left till race day. Are you in or out?

Eric,

This is the Fat Rabbit  Race Festival thread. Not the Columbus International race thread. Get your own thread!Smile Yeah, THIS race is in 5 days at Alum Creek. The one your thinking of is in July at Antrium Park in Columbus. Both put on by Fat Rabbit. I'll assume you're out for this weekend.Wink

sorry i did not find this post sooner, the sprint race there IS NOT the same course as wendys. the swim is a deep water triangle, the transition is set up about 3 feet from the beach in the area between the grass and parking lot, and the bike course is the loop right around the south end of the lake, you never leave the roads right next to it, it is basically a big rectangle, olympic is two loops and its an awesome race, very very well run and no course issues.

I didn't look at it but they did change the bike within the last couple of years. It was upward of 18 miles. It use to go out on Cheshire past I-71 to Rome Corners Rd to Lewis Center Rd.

That is the Wendy's/Ultra-fit Course. Fat Rabbit's takes a right onto Africa Rd... which is the first right after you cross the reservoir on Cheshire. It is, I think, 15.2... which is closer to the standard 400m, 20k, 5k sprint... and makes it very close to the 1500, 40k, 10k Oly.

Don't mean to argue, and it doesn't really matter, but.  I've have never done the Wendy's race.  I did FRR two years ago twice and it was a different course. Over 18 miles.

No arguing going on here... I just know the area pretty well and was trying to help. Sorry if it came off snooty. If you got to Rome Corners your looking at 17.2, 3b's&k ~16, Africa just over 15.
