Where are we meeting?  (I can't find that in the thread)  I haven't looked at the Hawk Island website- is there a specific parking lot or something? thanks.

I just found this thread and am new to the forum. Can I join you for the practice day? If all goes well in life I can be there by 8am. It is my first tri so I would love to a run-through of the course, and my wetsuit is coming today so I have to try it out.

Absolutely!  Just let us know what you are driving, so we don't randomly introduce ourselves to everyone that drives into the park!

It looks like the south parking lot (with the bath house) is nearest to the beach, and should be where they are setting up the T-area for the race.  Lets use that as the meeting spot.

I'm planning on being there too! This will be my 1st swim in a wetsuit. We did Hawk last year - but didn't need a wetsuit. These temps are bumming me. The bike course was slightly different last year too - I assume they changed it because of construction on Collins Rd. Trust me it's MIGHTY difficult to ride the wrong way on a 1 way with barrels and a drop off on one side and cars coming at you 2inches away on the other. I tried it last weekend - wasn't pretty, fun or fast.

I like the slow swimming - actually I like the slow everything idea. LOL! I don't know if I can do the whole tri - we'll see.

Alright!  Now let me see if I have this straight.  You are married to brickey, and already know trixie.  Is that right?

Wow, we have quite a crew this weekend.  Here is my count.

  1. moi (matt)
  2. runnergrl (jenniferlyn)
  3. sushigirl (jaclyn)
  4. rgr375 (dave)
  5. sweetP (polly)
  6. jhagerman (jeremy)
  7. pegasus (melissa) ?
  8. bckirkland (brad) ?
  9.  jogo (joanne) ?
  10. brickey (david) ?

By the way, I'm not a stalker.  I just clicked the profile button to see if your name was there.  I'm really bad with names.  The sooner I start to learn them, the fewer embarrassing moments I have.  I've gone over a year, calling someone by the wrong name....

The water today was nice (& cold), probably will want a wetsuit for tomorrow. I was the only person there today, but i warned the lifeguard a crew will be coming. Have fun!

I'm showing tomorrow, though I might not have a vioce to talk with! I'm probably passing on the swim, combination of sickness and lack of wetsuit deem it necassary, but it will be great to at least see the area. But planning on the bike/run

I'm going to be driving a loud red Durango

See everybody tomorrow morning!

Sushi and I are carpooling (yeah for being neighbors!) so we will be coming in a tan Ford Taurus.

I will be bringing my swimming gear and wetsuit, but am prepared to not swim if it is terribly cold - supposed to get really cold tonight!

We will see you all at 8AM - but Matt, like Sushi asked, is there a particular place to meet?  I assume at the beach somewhere...

Is there somewhere (Cracker Barrel, Perkins, Coney, etc) that we could do a post-practice breakfast?

I can't wait to meet everyone!!

I had a great time too.  My camera is flaking out on me right now, so I'll post up my pics later.

It was great to meet a bunch of new BT pals.  I think this just about tripled the number of MI BT'er that I've met!

Train hard this week and I'll see everyone next Sunday.

It was so great to meet everyone today! Thanks for a great practice! I can't wait to see most of you next week. Good luck to all at Hawk-I and Ann Arbor! Looks like the weather might hold out this weekend to really train strong.

Matt-I looked at that stuff that came with the wetsuit and the lady at Zoot must not have know what she was talking about. It did not come with any instructions on cutting and mending to fit. I might call Zoot on Tuesday and see if there is such a reference to use so I don't screw anything up.

Dudes, its cold.  Are we sure we want to do this?

Stalling, stalling, stalling.  My feet are cold.

Fine, lets go.  Jeez.

This isn't so bad.  Has anyone turned into an ice cube yet?

Look, we know how to swim.  Big mean lifeguard hasn't kicked us out yet either.

We made it to the other side, sweet!  Wanna go again?

The Gang.

Hey sorry to have bailed out!

Looks like you all had fun. I'll be braving the water with a half suit on race day... brave, dumb - who knows.

Anyone wanting to do a 25ish mile bike Wednesday night can join me in the big city of Saint Johns... PM for more details.

Talk to you all soon,

Jeremy

I'm guessing it was about the same temp.  Maybe a little warmer.  It wasn't brutal.

If I didn't have a suit, I could do the 400 without much problem, but I'd do my best to acclimate to cold water through the week.  Stuff like ICE cold showers, perhaps taking a cold shower then jumping on the bike for a ten miler... stuff like that.

Man, I love this sport!
