Okay, so its not official, but I like the sounds of it ....

This coming Saturday morning.  I am going to be at Hawk Island park for a full run through of the course.  This will include swim, bike, and run.  Maybe in that order, maybe not.  I would suggest that any first time racers, come out and join me.  It'll be fun.  You'll get a chance to see the course, get comfortable at the venue, and hang out with some fellow triathletes.

If you aren't going to race here but want to join in, come on out, I'll probably ride or run more after the primary run through.  We will be fairly close to MSU too.  (what time does the MSU dairy open?

If we can get trixie to show and swim, I'll raffle off a special gift.  A genuine wedgie from trixie!  Who can say no to that?!?!?!

Trix is off to WS trasining camp but a wedgie from Matt3liv would be a good second place option!

I am in I think - how do I get there, and at what time should I arrive????

Well, by the looks of your race schedule, you and I will know each other pretty well by the end of June.    We are going to be at all the same races.

If Brickey & I are in town - I'm sure we'll try to make it out there too. It would be great to meet up with fellow BTers.

I'm going to plan to be there at 8am, workout starts at 8:30am.  That give me a couple minutes to change any clothes, set up bike, stretch a little, etc.

Does that work?

just a couple miscellaneous things to consider if this is your first race...

practice at least one workout in the clothes you plan to race in.  i haven't tried out my zootgu uni yet, so i'll be sporting the obnoxious logos and WAY too tight jersey.

set up a transition area, just like you will for the race.  i don't like leaving a bunch of gear out in the open, so i'll set it up on the back of my vehicle for easy access.

eat the same breakfast as you plan to eat before the race.

in short, practice as many elements as you can, that will be duplicated on race day.

Hmmm I am so on the fence right now - I so need the practice, even though my tri is the following weekend after Hawk island (Ann Arbor), this would help me out with my nerves for AA.

HOWEVER - I am uber slow on the swim and don't want to be out there alone, would this be a stick together practice, or a race simulator in terms of pace?

If race simulator I'd have to pass because I don't know the course and am way slower than all of you.

Man I hate being slow, but I am working on it!

What should I do kids?  Come out and play in lansing or stay home and do it locally?  There is some chatter with my Tri club about doing an impromptu OWS this weekend - but there are a lot of naysayers due to water temps being cold.. so freakin' COLD!

I figured it would be more of a stick together thing.  If anyone wants to blitz out a fast workout, there is nothing but open water, pavement, and trail ahead.

It looks like a handful of folks are going to show.  If groups form and we end up having more than one pace, that's cool too.  I just wanted to see the place, get a feel for the routes, and scout out gravelly intersections/corners, big potholes, elevation changes, etc.

I race slow, why would I train fast?

Seriously Matt THAT is why I love training with you!  You keep it real!

I am in, no doubt then!

Mike thinks it is odd that I am willing to drive an hour each way to get ina 2-3 hour workout, but he understands that it is important to me.

I would love to go, but family plans say no.  This is actually the first memorial day weekend I have had off in 7 years.  Almost 12 weeks now since we built any trucks

Anyways I ran the running course a few weeks back and it was a nice run.  My question is with 500 people where are all the cars and trucks going to park?

Well then rgr - we can hang together!

I have a tan Toreass (Taurus) with a bunch of half-maraton/USAT stickers on the tailgate.

I will leave my place at a quarter to 7AM to get there.  I will still PM you my cell phone in case it gets to be 8:15 and I am still not there!  I have a Robyn-tough time inside parks I am new to.

I'll be there with bells on- I'm aiming for 8am though I've never been there before and have zero sense of direction.  If I'm late, I'm lost.

Driving a dark red Focus (with a darn HOTT bike on the back!).

8:00?? Man, that sounds like a good idea. It's definitely possible that I join you guys. It's going to depend on how late of a night the Tigers game turns into tomorrow night

Either way, I'll be curious to see what you guys think about the bike. I rode it last Friday night, flat as pancake with the exception of a tiny hill about a mile outside of the park. But when I was done, I had only ridden 6.75 miles so I'm fairly confident I took a wrong turn somewhere. I thought I knew how to read a map! My brother said he mapped it and it did map out slightly less than 10, but definitely more than the 6.75 I did.

That said, if I can't make it, I'd be curious to see what you guys find out on the bike.
