Swim
Comments: This was my personal best swim by far! I felt really strong in the water and everything went right. Sighting, drafting, and pulling through the water all went well! I started out in the front pack and was caught early on, however, I found my rhythm and was able to stay in the front pack for the most of the swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: No issues, but I had to sit down to get my shoes on so that added a few extra seconds. What would you do differently?: I think with a new pair of Triathlon specific shoes I could get in and out of there quicker. Three straps does take a few extra seconds to make sure all straps are tight, but with one strap it's tighten and go! So this may be an investment soon! Bike
Comments: There are definitely times when you could really ramp up the MPH on the flats but then the hills would take a toll on me a bit because of my larger build compared to most triathletes. My 6'8" build makes it difficult to get up the hills but then I fly down them. So I can't be too bummed. What would you do differently?: I did a poor job of nutrition, something I really excel at doing. I think I was so concentrated on the course that I forgot to take a much needed gel halfway through. I'll remember next time! Transition 2
Comments: T2 was fine. Quick transition into the run. It was muddy and slippery running out of transition at the start of the run because that's where everyone entered from the swim exit. But overall not bad at all. Run
Comments: The first couple hundred yards were flat but then came an immediate hill. However, I looked at my watch at first mile marker which was after the hill and it was under 8:00, so I was feeling good. However, once the hills became more consistent it took a toll on me. My legs were really feeling it. I tried to push through the last few miles but didn't have much left. I ended with a dissappointing pace, but then again this is one of the more difficult Olympic 10K's in Triathlon, so I was fine. What would you do differently?: Train and prepare by running more hills! Post race
