Cycling is my primary sport and I do some racing as well but last year I was mixing it up with some trail running and was enjoying it quite a bit, unfortunately I somehow got a HUGE blister on my left foot (on the pad) and it took literally months for it to fully heal, and now I'm petrified that this may happen again if I take up some trail running again.  Any suggestions on what I could do to make sure I prevent this from happening again?

Go to a propper running store (as opposed to somwhere like Walmart) and get fitted for a pair of running shoes -  shoes that are right for your feet etc

The right shoes will make all the difference

Wear good running socks - consider body glide

I went to Runner's Alley which is supposed to be a good running store over here and I thought was wearing proper socks, normally thin cycling socks or a thin pair of SmartWool socks.

Get socks made to prevent blisters. They make 'em. Also, body glide your feet before putting on the anti-blister socks.

Just my opinion.  I also suffered from some blisters and thought I would get them again.  As it turns out my feet have hardened over time and now I no longer get the same painful blisters.  Sometimes I'll get one, but they don't hurt anymore.  Good luck and don't worry about it.  Your body will adapt.

I can't wear my thinner running (or cycling) socks on anything over 30ish mins or I'll get a blister. You might just need different socks. And the area with the bad blister, probably won't get another one. Did it form a callus?

I've had problems with blisters for a few years. The kind you had do take a very long time to heal. Two thing I've done this year have completely eliminated all blisters. 1. Injinji socks - amazingly effective on their own. 2. Rub my feet all over with an antiperspirant to keep them dry. I've found this is much better than Bodyglide.

I've tried a bunch of different kinds of socks over the past several years and none has been as effective as Injinji.

Thank you, what series do you use? The Performance series?

Yes, the Performance series. They feel wierd the first time, but after a mile they feel like any other sock, except there are no blisters.
