Pre-race routine:

Two eggs, on Toast, Salsa. Cup of coffee. Very little water.Bathroom break at City Hall. 2nd one!

Drove out to city hall because of the rain.
Wore MEC rainproof tights and Sugoi rain top and hat. Glad I did, although I got a little hot. The rain was cold.

Event warmup:

Ran around the block, did some machs smiled at some folk and then took off.
It was cold and miserable and wet.

Comments:

No ranking...timed, but this was a fun run. I'd say I was in the first third of the pack.
Wasn't planning on running fast, but once I got out there realized I didn't want to stay out in the rain any longer than I needed to! Had some moments where I lost focus and slowed down. Had some other moments, where I felt strong and just picked up the pace.
Personal Best, I should just smile.

4 water stations. Had a quick gulp at the first one and ignored all the rest. Didn't need the water.
What would you do differently?:

Not start a race by thinking I'm not going to push too hard. It gave me too many opportunities to come up with excuses. I didn't go into that dark place this time - I ran into the light, but it was close a couple of times as I struggled through the wind.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much...Waited for some friends to come in, and then driving home and almost getting nailed by a woman in an SUV who ran a red light.
That would have been interesting!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pre-determining what I was going to run. Rain and Wind.

Event comments:

First ever run for the City. Weather sucked, but it was fun. IM champ Lisa Bentley was there and after she finished she ran and cheered on all those running in. She looks a lot younger and buff in real life than she does on tv. A real hottie.

Another personal best for you!  Congratulations on the race and pushing through to run into the light (too bad the SUV woman misunderstood and thought she was supposed to run the light).

I wonder what would happen if you ever got to race in nice weather??
