Pre-race routine:

Got to Memphis on Saturday and went to the race site for packet pickup. Met up with Lanecavu9, Chris(trigods) Shannon(fitphd). We enjoyed some music and then Chris and I did a little Openwater swim. This was the first time I had done a OWS in since IMAZ plus with a wetsuit so it was a ok swim. Then headed to my cousins house relaxed and then crashed.
Event warmup:

Got to the race site with all the other tons of people and got to my spot. i was number 53 and the AG numbers started at number 51 so I had a rack right beside the pros. One of the pros was on a trainer in the transition and a USAT official came over and made hm put on his helmet!! Met back up with Chris and LisaF, Rugbykid so we all talked a bit then headed to the swim start. Since I was such a low number had to get lined up
Swim
  • 30m 12s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was actually not bad. I started like I said second person of AGers so I was in the water fast. I started out pretty conservatively and really stayed that way the whole time. Since it was a time trial start I really did not have that much problem with people getting in the way. My sighting was very good I actually got right on course and stayed that way. Also caught up with a couple of the relay team swimmers.
What would you do differently?:

Well since the closest pool to me has been 60 miles I have not got much time in the water so I have to get back steady at it especially since the pool here just opened back up which will be a big help!
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Big transition was a little slow I need to learn how to put my shoes on the bike and running mount..Nothing went wrong
What would you do differently?:

Not much move a bit faster.
Bike
  • 1h 27m 3s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.13 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike ride is a pretty flat course. Not really that bad besides me still being over weight and slow. The wind was pretty brutal at times. Since I was 53 I got passed by lots of people which is pretty hard but really hard when someone that was number 853 passed me. I mean smoked me! Oh I got to see my dad brother and buddy at the start of the bike. They came up from a weekend at Tunica to cheer me on. Got to see them on the bike in as well.
What would you do differently?:

Lose weight the same issue since I started this sport and ride more lots more!
Transition 2
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

I decided to run with socks. I still have a huge blister on my foot so need get it toughened up.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to have shoes off and do a dismount with shoes still on
Run
  • 1h 21m 58s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Well as I leave transition got to see my family again and right away the word Brick comes to mind and I need to do more lots more. I just could not keep a pace up. I would start running and then stop. I walked probably the first 6 minutes just to get the legs moving and then just ran then walked over and over. Got out after mile one and it was a continuous up and down. By now lots of people on the run course. Those who had not passed me on the bike did so on the run..bu tit is just more motivation for the future. Got to the big hill(down hill side) and Lisa F went by so I tried to kick it up but oh well just was not happening made it to the turn around and yep time to go up on the way up saw Rugbykid who was looking very strong and also saw Chris Trigods as well. Got to the top of the hill and only 2 miles left with several rollers between. Again run walk yada yada made it to where you get to the grass levy and in the home stretch but it is the longest home stretch there. Got to the end crossed and ahhh the 08 tri season had began!
What would you do differently?:

Lose weight do more bricks and yeah both of those!
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with the family and then took a shower loaded the car up and headed to Chilis to eat!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Well eating horribly all week since my brother was in and of course need to lose weight and train more...But it was good!

Good work overall bro!  It's about getting across that line and you did that in style.  I'm sorry that you had to put up with CleTus & the gang though.

Great race Chris, even though you haven't been able to swim hardly at all!  Way to finish it out strong!
