Anyone interested in doing the Huntington Beach Distance Derby on October 18th.

The race is both the 5 mile and the 10 mile distance but the 10 miler is probably gonna be the big draw.  Not so much here on the West Coast, but on the East Coast, the 10 Mile distance is very competitive and comparable to the 15k distance.

Race tactics for the 10 miler are tough because it is run right on the ragged edge or just beyond for a lot longer then one cares to. Sub-60 is a very seductive target (Like a Sub-40 10k or a sub-20 5k) but is very tough to execute. (Requires the runner to avg just under a 6:00 Mile)

A more reasonable pace for the 10 miler is just a few seconds per mile slower than the Half Marathon Pace.

I am seriously considering this one

It is a week after the Long Beach Marathon and would make a great followup race to complete the recovery process.

I have never raced a 10 miler but have done plenty of tempo and time trial runs at this distance and have always wanted to run one. I doubt I will be competitive as the front runners will all finish in less than 60 minutes. (That's not in the cards for this kid)

Hope to see you out there
