Subject: When to squeeze into the wetsuit?

Hello, I have completed a few sprint distance tri's but I've never participated in a tri that required a wetsuit.  I am clean and warm water triathlete!  Anyway, what is the best time to put on the wetsuit.  I want to participate in the practice swim but there is usually some time between exiting the practice swim to race start.  The wetsuit is HOT and I don't want to go through taking it off. Any hints on timing this? I realize there are varables out of my control...like race organization...

People just wear it on their hips if you have a one piece.  Not so hot if it is just covering the legs.

I almost never do any sort of practice swim so will just put it on about 10 minutes before my wave starts.

Welcome to BT!!

Put it on just before the swim practice, and then if you have to leave the water for quite a while you can unzip and pull it down to your waist to prevent over-heating.

Just take the top off after the practice swim and let it hang from your waist.  Put it back on as your start time nears.  It's not that much trouble.  Your alternative is to keep it all the way on and get hot.  Whcich one is more trouble for you?

Thanks!  I appreciate the words of wisdom from such an esteemed group!  The swim is the most nerve wracking part for me.  It is more important for me to stay cool.  So i will be walking around with the suit at my waist....after my last visit to the porta potty!

You'll be fine.  The best thing to do?  Look around and see what everyone else is doing and start from there!

If you let it hang from your waist (good idea) Don't keep your goggles and swim cap in the hanging over part.

I did that and forgot and then when I put it back on there were two hard bumps where my boys should be with 2 minutes to start time...

Luckily a total stranger agreed to reach down and grab them.

She said there wasn't anything else of interest down there!
