Lake Mills Triathlon

Total Time = 1h 22m 26s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 40-44M
Age Group Rank = 38/65
Pre-race routine:

Fighting a sinus infection all week, so expectations were low from the beginning. Woke up, had waffles and coffee and off we went. Stopped for gas 45 minutes later and coughed so bad I puked all over the gas pump. Not a great start to the day
Event warmup:

Parked about a half mile a way and carried all the usual gear to the race site. Ran into the Donkey nation at the race. Got my chip and body marked and then tried to find a spot in transition. No luck- ended up having to rack my bike against a fence. The only problem is the fence was 3 feet into mulch, which made getting the shoe on tough.
Swim
  • 07m 58s
  • 402 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started to swim and instantly had problems with the left goggle leaking. Because I race in contacts I was worried about losing it, so I had to stop and empty the left eye piece every few minutes. Overall the swim felt good.
What would you do differently?:

no clue why the goggles decided to leak today. They have been great in the pool all year
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

Exited the water and had a slight case of the wobbleys- Amy was at the swim exit (she was in a later wave), so I ran up to her and gave her a kiss- only to slip on my wetsuit and do a face plant- hand hurt for a while but the crowd enjoyed the antics. Had problems getting the suit off since my transition area was against the fence in the wood chips.

Felt awesome on the bike

Nothing
Transition 2

Run
  • 27m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I'll take sub 9's after the hammer fest on the bike. Out and back course was great since you had a chance to see everyone on the run.
Post race
Event comments:

Easy course with great friends. I'm not a fan of races with open transition areas, but this seemed to be OK. Considering were I came from, I'm very happy with this performance.

Ewwww! Pukefest at the gas pumps! Haa! Sure made your point about the gas prices

Nice race dude and considering you puked and have sinus issues (I'm suffering with those myself and it bites), your race was awesome!

Well, looky you getting a quick run in!  You know what was the best?  That you didn't cough after swim while getting to Amy and then throw up.  THAT would not have been a pretty scene.

You looked really good out there, Craig!  Serious.  GREAT JOB, DONK!   EEEAAAWWW!!!

Nice race, donk, especially after the whole pukey episode. Of course, if I'd known you've been fighting off The Plague I wouldn't have slapped you on the back during the run. Don't need a ny of that right now! Otherwise, good seeing you, man!

That was a solid effort all around Craig!  That's a nice quick swim given the goggle issue.  The other stuff was also strong!!!  Good seeing you out there.
