Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30a.m. Ate breakfast (bagel/peanut butter). Headed off to the race site. Got to the race site around 6a.m. and set up transition.
Event warmup:

Really didn't do a lot of warm-up...I need to learn how to do this. I just feel rushed to get my transition area together and then don't want to move anything. In the future, I really need to stretch more and maybe jog a bit. And then make myself get in the water and swim a bit. I always feel better after that.
Swim
  • 11m 5s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Apparently I am directionally challenged!! I was more winded on this swim that I thought I would be. And the extra 50-100 yds. probably did nothing to help my time...I can't swim straight for the life of me. Overall, a pretty good swim. Anytime there is minimal seaweed its a good day.
What would you do differently?:

Navigate better. Warm up.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Damn wetsuit. I got to the T area and sat on my new fangled bench. LOVE IT! Dried off a bit after tearing off my wetsuit and made sure that I did some GU...YUCK! Then took some water and was off. I was WAY more winded here than I thought...probably do to the uphill run to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Breath...
Bike
  • 47m 24s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 15.73 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike still just kills me. But this is the highest pace average I have had. It seemed that all the hills were at the end, but it may have been that I just noticed them more.
What would you do differently?:

Keep pedaling...
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Went in the wrong aisle to rack my bike...mistake one. Then just felt like I fumbled around. But it wasn't too bad. This was the first race with quick laces and I really liked them.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely know where my rack is....fo' sure!
Run
  • 46m 44s
  • 3.25 miles
  • 14m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm not a runner...obviously. This was a difficult, hilly, rooty, wet run. Don't get me wrong it was beautiful. I have done no hill training and it just really kicked my butt.
What would you do differently?:

Run more. Hill training. More mental will power. I really think I can run if my brain would just shut up and let my body do it.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate bananas, sandwich and gatorade. Watched some other finishers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more running. Shin splints and leg pain are really limiting.
