Pre-race routine:

The race director had an introductory seminar the day before the race. He covered transitions, race format, course details, etc. It was extremely helfful and informative for a beginner like myself.

I woke up a 5 am. Had coffee, protein shake, and a granola bar for breakfast. Packed another granola bar and banana as I knew I'd be waiting for a couple of hours for my wave to start (pool swim).

Double checked my bag, and drove to the race site.
Event warmup:

Just some light stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 29s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 54s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim. Started out a little fast (passed 4 people first length) but soon got my rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Start in a faster wave to minimize the amount of passing.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

All transition times are included in the bike times.

Everything went smoothly. Couldn't have gone any better. Ran out of transition, jumped on bike, clipped in, and go.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 29m 50s
  • 16 kms
  • 32.18 km/hr
Comments:

Didn't push hard enough.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

All transition times are included in the bike times.

Again, everything went smoothly. Couldn't have gone any better. Even my neoprene ankle brace went on smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 16m 14s
  • 3.4 kms
  • 04m 46s  min/km
Comments:

Decent run considering that my running has been severly limited due to an ankle sprain. I'd only started running two weeks ago after five weeks off due to the sprain.
What would you do differently?:

Not sprain my ankle?
Post race
Warm down:

Eat the free food, wait for the door prizes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ankle sprain.

Event comments:

Great beginners race.

Congratulations on your race yesterday! What a beautiful day it was! That race is always great for first timers, they do an amazing job of getting us all hooked, don't they.

Enjoy a little bit of rest, maybe see you at some more races!

Thanks. I couldn't have asked for a better day. I agree upon the race. It had been recommended as a good first race and they didn't dissappoint. And yeah, I'm hooked. I was already loving the training and the way it has changed my physical and mental well being. But the race was just icing on the cake.

Rest? I don't need any more stinkin' rest (see 5 weeks off from running due to ankle sprain). However, I did reward myself (and my wife) with an evening out without the kids at a nice little Italian restaurant.

I'll be racing the K-100 relay on June 21st, the sprint at Coral Springs on July 13th, the Oly at Lake Chaparrel on Aug 17th, and the Harvest Half Marathon on Sept 29th. Maybe I'll see you at one of the events.

Great job for your first tri - those are amazing times!  We couldn't have asked for better weather, as well.

Good luck in your upcoming races!
