Age Group Rank = 12/12
Pre-race routine:

Get up early, drank 8 oz of h2o and said a prayer. 30 mins late Ate a whole wheat turkey with sweet potato spread sandwich with vitamin with Cyclomax and whey powder mix. 15 mins before race i had a 1/4 of odawalla protien bar
Event warmup:

forgot camelback so i walked back and forth to the car and missed the swim warmup. Stretched and jogged in place
Swim
  • 36m 39s
  • 820 yards
  • 04m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt really disoriented on the swim. very disappointed with my time. The water was very cold; causing my face and feet to feel numb. I don't have a lot of practice in open water and the waves got to me along with the current coming out. Coming back I felt a lot better kept my head down and talked myself through the swim but the damage was done. Having the swim warm up would have helped. This was my first wetsuit race and I really liked the bouyancy factor!
What would you do differently?:

Make sure i participate in the swim warm up!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

They included t1 with the swim time so i don't know how long i spent in transition. Maybe i am reading the results wrong. I did have a short talk time with the women next to me about water temp. But overall i did not spend to much time primping i rinsed and wiped my feet. Long run to transition. got out of the suit fairly quickly...or at least if felt like I did...
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 35m 51s
  • 18 miles
  • 11.27 mile/hr
Comments:

I used Heed w/protien and felt really good on the bike but my legs were screaming.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn how to use gears on hills and take advantage of momentum gained on the down hill
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

I use a fuel belt beause I like to be in contol of when i have something to drink. But it was twisted and it took a little time to straighten it out. Then i had the race belt on....so that was a little cumbersome. Overall a good transistion
What would you do differently?:

put my race shoes on top of the fuel belt
Run
  • 39m 7s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 11m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. I felt great. Not too tired not to hot. but i could have done better...pushed more and saved off 5 mins. I had on sunglasses but there was a lot of pollen and my eyes felt like i had glass in them. rised them with water. kept going should have picked up the pace.
What would you do differently?:

nothing...but run through the pain....
Post race
Warm down:

had a burger and hugged my family! Thanked them for coming!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ME! I need more open water practice and need to put it all out on the run.

Event comments:

I swould say the race was too hard only because of the hills on the bike. They were very challenging! Overall take away 3 of the hills and the race would have been just right for me. I would not recommend this race as a first race unless you have the mountains of PA to train on. It was my longest swim and bike. I hope to register for an O distance next year.

A swim warm up is a huge help, especially in cold water. Even though the swim was rough you stuck with it and got through! Way to go.
