Lake Mills Triathlon
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 20m 11s
Overall Rank = 190/648
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/13
Pre-race routine:

usual, up half hour before leaving (4:30) darn robins woke me @0425 though! Yogurt and diet pepsi on the drive. Quick stop at the exit to avoid port potties at the race site. (note to self GREAT idea, the toilet actually flushed!)
Event warmup:

10min walk to site from parking on the road; took awhile to find any donkeys. FINALLY Craig and Amy, then Dave. Walked up to a guy in a donkai top and said "donkey, who are you!!" It was Morey, (nice to meet you!) Saw 3 friends from the bike shop. Swim out to the first buouy and back. RAN hard back to transition after start of race to get extra goggles for a guy sitting in the water with broken ones! (first race, had to wait for goggles to start, crisis averted). Hung with Amy till my wave.
Swim
  • 09m 8s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

bad positioning, swimmers too slow in front, too fast in back. (was pretty much like the youtube video) Better after first turn. LOVE my new
wetsuit!
What would you do differently?:

position to outside like I always have in the past. (WHAT was I thinking :) )
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

I put my shoes on in transition, chicken to try otherwise. Happy with how wetsuit came off. (had alot of trouble with it hanging up on my watch at Minnedonka)
What would you do differently?:

hmmm, pretty happy with it! Maybe learn to not wear socks?
1/13 for t1 time
Bike
  • 45m 38s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.72 mile/hr
Comments:

had a girl drafting off me the first 3 miles or so, which just makes me mad. Either pass, or drop back! The rest was good, felt I built the intensity throughout. Gelled about 2-3 miles from finish of bike. Good plan.
What would you do differently?:

probably could have pushed a bit harder a bit earlier. (like when being drafted? I was just trying to ride MY race, not hers!!, ah well, if it helped her out, so be it!)
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

good t2, a bit slow getting shoes on, few good gulps of powerade. (still cold from freezing half of it prior to leaving home!)
What would you do differently?:

maybe try YANKZ (sp) laces??
t2 5/13
Run
  • 22m 42s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

GREAT run for me! Felt awesome, did not feel I was going to die before end.
What would you do differently?:

well, maybe could have pushed more the last mile...since I did not have that feel of, darn Im gonna have to walk!
Post race
Warm down:

did not walk around enough soon enough, but did ok. LOVED that they had Coke at the finish!! Lots of Donkeys at the end...great feeling to have people you know at the finish line. Went back on the course to run half mile or so with Amy and Deanna, then they kicked it in to the finish (nice job ladies!), went back out to find Peggy, ran in with her, and Deanna came back out too! Peggy threatened to punch me if I ran backwards and danced...told her she'd have to catch me. (No, did not dance, she's bigger than me!!)

(25/269 females)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

wow, can't really think of anything. I felt great, good taper (ie nothing for 3 days prior, which is usual for me). Very pleased, esp with run.

Event comments:

really enjoyed the race, good early season difficulty. GREAT day with the Donkeys! (and my W&S friends!)

Great race! Considering how close we finished, we'll have to keep pushing each other at future events. Nice to meet you, even briefly!

Sweet race and great to meet you!  I felt IDENTICAL on the run.  It was tough, but I didn't have the epic feeling of death either.  Probably means I coulda gone a tad faster.  The flip side...isn't it FUN when you know it's clicking along nicely?  See ya out there down the road.
