OOH OOH, I am, I am!!!!

Will be fun.  Finally a 1/2 that shouldn't be terribly hot (while he knocks on the most reachable piece of wood)

I'll be there taking lots of video. So, like, watch your language. And smile a lot.

we have to have a BT gathering so I can put faces with cryptic screen names!

How's the training going so far?

After a slow start to the season with lots of missed workouts, I have settled into a good pattern with the training. so far, so good.

Couldn't pull the trigger on this one. I think I am may go for the half next year. But The bike shop is sponsoring the bike portion of this years race, and has asked for volunteers. So I will be cheering you guys on, and pointing you in the right direction (hopefully). Good luck!!

Week three comes to a close with only one missed workout so far. Yeah me. Consistency has been an issue this spring so far. I wonder how preparing all summer through the heat will compare to race day. I wonder if it will be chilly on race day. anyway, can't control that can we.

Had a great swim yesterday in the pool and it certainly wold have been a pr at the HIM distance. Can't wait to add the wetsuit, salt water and current!!!

Be careful training out there on the roads and in the heat.

What do you tnink?

I've never done a race that had two or more distances going at the same time. Will it feel like cheating to just do the half while others toil on with the full?

I have a question for you:

Do you think RACING a Half Iron distance is easier than FINISHING(participating) an Iron Distance?

Good question. There is just so much that can go wrong in the full distance. Twice the chance for a wreck or equipment failure or nutrition lapse. It requires so much preparation which makes you a little more prone to injury during training.

I guess its all perspective and what kind of shape a person is in. For some going 140.6 would be extremely taxing but for others just finishing 140 would be not that big of deal. Same for RACING a 1/2 for some, extremely hard, for others, hard, but not as hard.

I'm curious to see more response on this question.

Ok.. Let me add my 2cents to that..
I personally think everything else being the same(age, weather, course conditions,etc..)to finish a 1/2 Iron race around 5 hours is much harder then finishing an Iron distance race inside the time cut-off(17 hours).
I would love to finish a 1/2 race at or under 5 hours(I already finished one little over 5:40) but I don't care finishing a full distance at 16:XX. I am not that patient to walk a marathon in 6.5 hours I guess!!!

I've never completed a full or a half (B2B half will be my first), but I do have an opinion here for what it's worth.

Effectively RACING a half requires a much more technical training methodology; doing the right speedwork at the right time, maintaining a good balance between endurance training and speedwork, implementing an effective taper, etc.

It seems to me that training to simply FINISH a full could be accomplished through a less technical, strictly aerobic training program.  Some minimum amount of volume is required, but I think training in this way requires much less experience and knowledge.

I don't think raceday itself would be much more strenuous for me personally one way or the other.  But I do think training to RACE is much more difficult than training to FINISH.
