Comments: This was my 2nd rally of this distance, the first (Wild Ride – Plano) was significantly easier in comparison, today it seemed like the wind was against me 75% or more of the course, really only felt like there was one small area where the wind was helping instead of hurting. I ended up with roughly the same avg MPH but it took a lot more effort this time. The course started out on nice roads but at most of the more southern sections had bad roads. I made a conscious effort to not draft and do the miles on my own to gauge my fitness for the up coming Half Ironman races I have planned. Feel I did pretty well considering no drafting, but it took a lot out of me and there is no way I could have finished a Half Mary in my goal time of sub 2hrs immediately after this ride, so I still have some serious work to do. My Garmin avg was 18.1mph and this does not include the bathroom stop or the stop at mile 45 or so to get water. If the stops are factored in then my avg was 17.7mph which is still pretty good.
