Subject: DU and Tri back to back weekends??
I have a quick question. I'm doing a sprint tri in Aug. and thinking about doing a run/bike/run DU the weekend before my tri. The distances of the DU are 4/14/4. Is this a good idea? Or, should I just forget about the DU and focus on the taper week before my tri? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

It all depends on your goals. There are people that do two races in ONE weekend, or a few that do four in one weekend (the TTT) or like me, do three marys in 3 days...

If you want to go fast in both, it may not happen. If you want to use one as a training day and race the other, that's usually a better option, but people do race back to back all the time.

GOOD LUCK and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

I would say it depends on how well conditioned you are. If that 4/14/4 is going to be a struggle for you, you might need a little more recovery time in between. If you have been training a lot, that du is not very high milage, you could go for it full tilt and be completely rested and ready to go by the next weekend. I'm sure lots of people disagree with me and I'm certainly not an expert but I think racing is the best way to train!

if the tri is an "A" race, you can do the du as a training day...but make it training!! Ive done sprint tris back to back (same weekend) and got 1st in age group both. Depends alot on your taper before hand (and your determination!) Great luck to you!
