Overall Rank = 199/213
Age Group = F20/29
Age Group Rank = 10/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up early and had coffee and a bagel. Finished getting my gear together and loaded it in the car. I left about 6:00. I wanted to get a good parking spot! I set up my gear and chatted with friends while sweating in the heat. UGH!
Event warmup:

Got in the water and swam a few hundred yards.
Swim
  • 16m 10s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a good swim. I found some open water and swam my race. I had a girl cut in front of my TWICE. Her sighting was awful! I had to laugh though, I thought it was sort of funny.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. It's the fastest I've gone yet.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Geez, I need to figure out how to get my wet suit off faster!!!!!
Bike
  • 1h 06m 20s
  • 14.4 miles
  • 13.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Here is where it all went wrong. My hybrid and I were rocking out the course. I was pounding it and making GREAT time (for me). I even got to say 'on your left' a few times. That was FUN! Then, about 3-4 mile from the end of the course, my rear derailer just breaks. What? Are you kidding me? There was nothing I could do but run it in. I was super bummed out but oh well, I was not going to let ANYTHING stop me from finishing!!
What would you do differently?:

Um, not have my bike break. Grrrrr.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Not much to say. I was very glad I remembered to take my helmet off!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 32m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

After having already done a 3-4 mile run in my bike shoes, in the heat, I was pretty tired before I even started. I didn't let it bother me too much though. I was NOT going to walk! I ran the entire thing (slowly).
What would you do differently?:

Not have run with bike!
Post race
Warm down:

I grabbed some water and went and found friends to see how they did.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My bike really screwed me up. I'm still really mad about it. What a way to have my first race go! No worries, I'm starting to plan for the next one! Any bike recommendations?

Event comments:

I really enjoyed my first race, even with all that went wrong. I met some great people and look forward to doing this one again next year on a new bike!

congrats on completing your first tri and dealing with some bad luck with the derailleur.  What tough conditions to be out there today.  It was unfortunate that yesterday's cool breeze off the sound wasn't there for you today.

Sorry to hear about your bike. Never a good time when you've got to bring the bike home on your feet. Not sure what you mean by "broke" but, it's likely fixable. [sarcasm] Just don't let me at it if you want it to actually work afterwards[/sarcasm]

edit: Never mind: That's officially "broke". New one should only be <$50 installed.

That "swim" was stoopid. I was so frustrated with that and it set the tome for my day.

Wow, it must have been awful pushing that bike 3-4 miles in the heat.  You're tough!

Way to "cowgirl up" and do what you needed to do to finish your race!

Do you have any other tris planned?

Do you have any other tris planned?

I am planning on the Niantic Bay in August and the Women's tri in September.  I'm still bummed out about yesterday but really looking forward to the next one! Just more motivation for me to train harder and get better equipment!
