Event warmup:

Nothing special. Stretching.
Swim
  • 22m 16s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Fog cut course short. Could not really see. This was scary. Race start delayed. I have difficulty siting anyway and this made it even more difficult. Seemed at times like you were swimming in a cloud and only hoped that the swimmer in front of you could see better. I was so glad when this part was over.

What would you do differently?:

Get a full sleeved wet suit for cold water races
Transition 1

Comments:

Was so cold coming out of water, took extra time to warm up and get settled for bike. Was not trying to be fast at all, just get warm and setteled.

Honestly I don't think the swim was that bad.  Toward the end the fog lifted.  Well, you guys started earlier (my wave the 2nd to last).  Hey, to day at the HIM I saw a guy shivering so much that it took him over 10 min at T1.  He was having hypothermia, and the warming tent wasn't on.  He couldn't bend down to put on socks.  Actually shouted over and told him to eat something.  He said he wanted hot coffee.  Couldn't help with that.

Nice paces on the bike and run. The course doesn't seem so bad this year, except for the cracked up roads.

Good job with swimming in the foggy abyss!  Yeah..full sleeve wetsuit is mandatory in our chilly NH lakes...at least until late July.  Great race!
