OK so I know many people have been talking about going up to Flag to pre-ride the course, and some people have already been doing that! As it gets closer I hope to get up there a couple of times so lets post rides here for safe keeping and easy reference!

Saturday June 14
Time: Pretty early morning but TBD depending on who is in
Where: I would prefer to start at the boat ramp to get "real race" conditions but if others want to start at mailboxes that is fine.
Course: Also TBD, maybe the Oly course maybe (part of the) HIM course, depends on how everyone feels.

Robot and I are in? WHO ELSE?

I do my long runs on Saturdays because of the race schedule and then I have to rest on Sunday. The last two times I didn't, I paid for it all week. I'm old, remember? I could do a short ride on Friday morning. When are you coming in? I had put down the 12th... Chris might be up again.

On top of my training plan I have to fit in the copy-editing of my book and the contractors starting on the house this week. More reasons I'm so inflexible. If I start moving things around too much I won't get it all done, especially the long run. And I have a 15K coming up in less than two weeks... argh!

Not up until Friday afternoon - might be evening depending on traffic.

Bummer.

Bummer, yes. I thought about how nice it would be to ride with you while I was on the ride today. I'm very flexible when it comes to swims since they're so easy for me but my legs really need the rest after a run. How long are you staying? We could do one early Monday morning...

I may be up next weekend (21,22) and will probably run and ride.  Can you do some OWS in Lake Mary safely (boats, etc)?

It's a bit iffy on weekends. Lots of boats. Better during the week. There were two water skiers today, that was all. But it will go up as it gets warmer, even during the week.

If you guys decide to do the ride this Sunday afternoon, I'd most likely be in.  Only problem would be that my wife is on call this weekend, so if she happens to get called in I would have to stay home with the boys.  So, I guess what I'm saying is that I'm iffy so don't change any plans on my account, but if you decide to do the sunday pm ride either post it here or pm me so I can try to meet up with you.  I can't do saturday am because of baby sitting duty.

OK COOL! So it looks like the only person who kinda has a time frame is DMILLIS for Sun afternoon. I think thats fine for a ride.

WHAT TIME are we thinking???

AND if she happens to get called in that's okay too as its not completely re-arranging my plans to ride then.

Anyone interested in a trail run on Saturday afternoon? I'll have to work till 4 or 5 and then will head out east to the Campbell Mesa Trail system just past the Country Club area.

There's a whole bunch of loop trails with different length, all starting at the same trail head, all pretty flat and not too rocky. Easy on the legs and just so beautiful in the forest.

The gym with a 25-yard outdoor pool is also right there. For $9 you can get a guest pass and swim after the run. Very refreshing and good for recovery--so you can all bike the next day.

I have to rest on Sunday since I'm planning on a long run. Well, long in terms of time not distance, ahem. You guys can probably run the same trail and call it a short run and be fine on Sunday! But, again, everyone could run their own distance since there are so many loops to choose from.

Oh yes! It's an easy, mostly flat trail and people use it for dog walking too. No need for any special equipment. Kinda like Buffalo Park but with more shade.

There are a bunch of shorter loops with some gorgeous views of the mountains from a different angle than the usual one from town. Maybe that will spike the tourists' interest Wink

How does 1:00 sound?  Any time after noon would be fine with me.  It's going to be hot for us mountain folk but is 85 degrees ok for you all?  I'm looking forward to it.

It's going to have to be more like 3:00 is that do-able? I have to get m parents kicked out of town and "pretend" I am heading back myself so I think 3:00 seems more do-able to make them think I am heading back to the valley...I know, I am terrible. The things we do for training!

Astrid - great, I really hope to do that did you say a time and HOW far you planning?

I was planning on a 90-minute run, pretty much from the gym along the street, around Campbell Loop and then back to the gym--with walking breaks. That way I can leave all my stuff in a locker at the gym and not worry about the wallet sitting in the car. And I jump in the pool afterwards.

But there is parking at the trailhead if you want to do a shorter one. Does 4:45 at the trailhead work for you?

Astrid - I think that should work out just fine. I may have to run back before you do, maybe not though? I'd love to do a long run so we'll see! Maybe at least 60 minutes!

I will run from the gym so that adds 2 x 1.5 miles to my run (to and from the trail head) and leaves 60 minutes in the middle with you. Does that work?

And those will all be VERY slow minutes! With walking breaks for sure.

Saturday, it's for the run. Oh no! Sportyj, now we got everyone confused...

Recap so far:

Run: Saturday, 4:45 p.m. from Campbell Mesa trail head for whichever distance you want to run

Bike: Sunday, 3 p.m., location tba

(Chris, I'm starting the run at the FACE to make it a bit longer and to get in the pool afterwards. You can do the same if you want to but I don't think the Sportybots have the time for it.
