OH OK cool! These rides are actually UP in Flagstaff on select weekends. So if you can make it up there - FANTASTIC! If not check out the ESCKTC Bike thread to get some miles in until you can make it up the hill for a course training ride!

Anyone up for a ride on the 28th?  I was thinking of doing the 10K up there and then doing a ride around the lake. Maybe I'll just run up there and not do the race?

Matt and I are going up on Fri afternoon (the 27th).  Might try and hit the lake that afternoon if it's safe. Then a nice brick on Saturday and back home.

I'll see what I can do when we get closer to the date. (I'm shuffling contractors, work, and training now...) I'm only doing the 5K at the Northland Hospice--I've declared it my "legacy" race and will try to improve on my time from last year--so, maybe a ride is possible in the afternoon. Friday should be okay for a swim, Saturday and Sunday are bad because of the boats.

Jen,

I think she said she was on the West side of Phx. Avondale. I think that sound right.

Ready to head up the hill for a brick on Saturday morning...

Question - -do you need to deflate your tires before going up?  Would the air pressure change be enough to pop a tire? (I feel stupid for asking this)

Hey Fitz,

Don't worry about your tire pressure. I've been going up every weekend for a month now and haven't had any problems. The SportyBots brought theirs up last weekend. Good thinking though. None of us gave it any thought, and the way everything blows up on the way there, maybe we should have.

I'll PM you my number. I'd like to get together with you this weekend if you bring your bike up and go for a ride. We could do the Mountain Man course if you'd like.

I'm up Friday afternoon and back to Phx on Saturday.  I would love to stay up there, but I've got stuff to get back to (especially since I've probably got to back up there on Tues. for business. Oh well, at least gas is cheap)

COUGH COUGH RIIIGHT! Well my ride up is Sunday so I am sorry to miss you! Maybe next time.

Candice - The great thing about the Flag ride is it is an out and back so we can all start together and ride our distances and paces and meet back up at the start. I know Travis and his buddy are planning to ride the HIM course (56-60 miles) I hope to tag along with them at least to the Lodge and if I am feeling well I will do the whole ride if not I'll do about 40. But like I said you could come do the sprint course, Oly course or HIM course. Did you get a BIKE!

It's actually a very good question that I bet most people wouldn't even think to ask.

Your tire pressure may actually end up a bit lower.  If your bike is in your garage in Phoenix, say it's 100 degrees.  As you travel up to Flag, the pressure would rise somewhere around 3 or 4 psi due to the elevation change, but because it's also getting cooler, the tires are loosing about 2 psi per 10 degrees it cools off.

Thanks Mr. Wizard!  I thought about the air pressure change, but not the temp. Great answer!
