Subject: My Morning Was Going So Well....

Had a few days of good training going and got my butt outta bed early this AM to get in a short ride while the family was still asleep and before temps here in NY hit 90+ before I had to get to work.

Was finishing up, feeling good and made the left turn 100 yards from my house.

WHAM! Down goes FD.  There was a bunch of broken glass all over the street I did not see as I was distracted by a pedestrian who had started to cross the street in front of  me.  My wheels went out from under me as I turned and I ate it hard.  Fortunately the bike seems OK except for a flat.  Some minor bruising/road rash on my left hip and my left arm/elbow is cut up pretty bad.  I think I've cleaned it up and bandaged it pretty good. I've not wiped out in a few years.  Figured this would happen so close to home less then one week before my next race.

When I told my 6 year old son "see...even daddies can fall off their bikes!" he replied maybe I need training wheels and then laughed as if he told the funniest joke ever.  Wise guy.  :-

Have the bike checked out by a pro - just in case.  I would hate for you to be out racing and have something fail that you didn't see.  That could be really dangerous.  Hope you heal well.  Good luck in the race.

Sorry about the wreck.  At least it sounds like you and the bike are reasonably OK.  The story about the training wheels is awesome!

What's that saying, something about most accidents happen closest to your house, or something like that?

Glad you're okay.

Your kid has a great sense of humor!

I'm going to go over it more closely when I get home from work today and also try to get out on a ride again. If anything at all seems "off" I'll have it checked out.  Thanks.

Ha!  I did not get a good enough look as I went down pretty fast.  She did hand me my water bottle and ask me if I was OK before going on her way.  I was to dazed and embarrassed to really get a good look. ;-

Had a similar mishap. Exept my wife was the one with the training wheels joke. I told her I have training wheels. It is the race wheels that I need. Didn't work by the way.

Hope you heal quickly. Good luck at the race.

It was a damn nice try, though. I have to remember that one.
