Pre-race routine:

Arrived at venue...set up transition...almost forgot to get my chip until I was reminded...stared at the water and started getting nervous. I helped the lady next to me set up her transition - it was her very first triathlon.
Event warmup:

I swam around a little in the lake. Walked around...got nervous...started biting my nails....
Swim
  • 12m 51s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I practiced this course the day before the race. My only real goal for this whole event was to get through the swim...
What would you do differently?:

Really nothing. I did what I wanted.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

I was a tad disoriented, but just so happy that I finished the swim...the rest of this race was just to finish.
Bike
  • 33m 56s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.45 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a nice course...twice I actually forgot I was racing and started sight seeing...
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention to the fact that it was a race. The best female in my AG paced 19.8... I was 2nd at 19.4. I guess I do want to note that my bike according to several people is "not the right size" for me and "way too big"...but she has been a good bike and I have decided NOT to look at new bikes until after October.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

This was first transition ever under a minute. I noticed a slight cramp in my left leg, but proceeded without dealing with it. My first race using my new speed laces...
What would you do differently?:

Practice a better dismount.
Run
  • 18m 22s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I turned on my Garmin, and it would not pick up until probably .3 miles had elapsed...which made it harder to monitor my pace. I was still trying to run through a small cramp in my left leg. I actually am very disappointed in this run...the worst run ever I have had in a triathlon.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder from the start. Like I said - VERY disappointed in the run - I wanted to go sub 16 and ran 18:22, but like I said...this race was only about finishing the swim.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around - talked to other BTers...listened to horror stories about the swim and people not finishing, and I was just glad it was over.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training...of course.

Event comments:

Like I said...I needed a race with an OWS for me to put my DNF from three weeks ago behind me. Going into the race, I didn't care if I placed last in the whole event, as long as I got through the swim. I know it was mainly a mental block, and I just needed to conquer it. I had a lot of friends out there supporting me and cheering me on, and that meant a lot to me.

Glad you remembered your chip,, it really would have been a shame to get through that swim and the rest of the race without it.. even with your run not being what you usually do... you still had some fast bike/t2/run times..

excellent job Bonnie.  FYI...someone sure was having fun out there (see pics).  Sorry for the grainy shot..but you were going too fast and I was too far away.  Laughing

Great job.  If you can get throught that swim, then you can get through just about any swim.

Your run would have been faster if you had not spent so much time waving to your fans.   Congrats on getting that OWS under your belt.

You did a tremendous job at that race.  Coming up there Saturday to watch the swim showed some serious fortitude.  You rock!

(Speed lace encouragement was given for free...but did you really have to beat my T2 by one second??)
