Overall Rank = 172/211

Age Group Rank = 26/29
Pre-race routine:

I arrived around 2:30 and got my transition area set up. Then took a nap in the car until the race info meeting.
Event warmup:

Wrestled on my wetsuit? Haha, I got in the water and swam about 100 yards before the group start.
Swim
  • 06m 56s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did a lot better sighting the bouys this time. I wasn't off in lala land. I started in the middle of the womens pack. The salt water threw me the first few breaths and I had to try really hard to breathe out of my mouth. I didn't realize I normally take in that much water - I guess I just got used to chlorine all those years. :) The breathing also helped calm my nerves since I had something to focus on. The current was helping carry us, so I had a pretty good swim.
What would you do differently?:

This time around, nothing. I stayed on course and was about in the middle of the pack. Not sure there's much else to calm my nerves in an OWS.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

The wetsuit came off a lot faster this time. I just have to give it a good yank when it gets caught on my ankles. This T1 felt faster than the last, but not sure. I still have the problem of feeling dizzy the first 10 minutes or so coming out of the swim.
Bike
  • 40m 41s
  • 9 miles
  • 13.27 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt much better with my gearing on the hills. Hmmm, maybe climbing mountains pays off. Still relatively slow on the bike, but getting faster.
Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

The dismount for the bike was at the top of the hill. The first couple of steps were a bit slipery and precarious, but made it down.
What would you do differently?:

I would have walked up the initial hill. I think I expended way too much energy climbing the hill and it took a while for my HR to come back down.
Run
  • 37m 3s
  • 3 miles
  • 12m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, seeing as I'm not supposed to run...of course I kind of followed the doc's advice. The run course was cone lined, so I ran 10 cones and walked two. Figured that all averaged out, right?
What would you do differently?:

Run?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit. Grabbed a smoothie and cookie from the refreshment tent. Then went to mexican food for dinner with Vera.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running the whole run portion.

Event comments:

The volunteers were great. It would have been nice if they had a refreshments tent open before and after the race, given the race time was 5pm.

It does sound as though we have some things in common-we both hate the taste of saltwater,we were mislead on the bike course. Great job! See you next race!
