HSBC Triathlon Series
30C / 86F
Sunny
Total Time = 41m 58s
Overall Rank = 4/95
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early had a shower ate some oatmeal and had a coffee, double checked that I had everything, loaded the bike and left,
Event warmup:

went for a short bike ride and witnessed 2 girls crash hard in another race, helped the one up and moved her bike so no one would get hurt, the paramedics were there in minutes, I think it was just a lot of raod rash but man it was scary to see.

After that got on my cheapie wetsuit and warmed up for about 10mins in the lake.
Swim
  • 08m 56s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was really trippin' balls about the swim but was actually doing alright and remaining calm untill the first buoy (100m) then I kinda lost it and ended up doing backstroke and freestyle with my head above the water the rest of the way, I'd try to go back to normal swimming but my breathing was all messed up. That's about the point where I said "never again"
What would you do differently?:

Well I've been training since december for this very race going to the pool on average 3 times a week and could actually swim a kilometer. Did about 5 OWS in the 2 weeks leading up to the race then race day comes and it's like I've never swam before. So the only thing I would do different is to sign up for a Duathlon.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Went really smooth
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 22m 2s
  • 10 kms
  • 27.23 km/hr
Comments:

I wasn't that tired from the swim but I just wasn't feeling it. I just kinda felt off on the bike like it was a lot harder then it should have been for me. I've had easy training rides faster so I should have done a lot better. But I was still ok with my performance.
What would you do differently?:

ride the roller more over the winter.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Had a slight problem getting my back to stay on the rack but other then that perfect!
What would you do differently?:

not have my bike slip off the rack
Run
  • 09m 12s
  • 2 kms
  • 04m 36s  min/km
Comments:

Still felt off, didn't fell like I was running very fast but I slowly passed most of the rest of the feild. Sprinted past one more guy right before the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

more bricks
Post race
Warm down:

drank water, drank gatorade, ate cliff bar and watermelon

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim and the fact that I was having an off day

Event comments:

Very well ran race, great volunteers and lots of great draw prizes after. I won a medal and free race picture for 2nd in my AG and got my picture taken for being in the top 5.

When I saw the title to your post "I think I will stick with du's"  I thought for sure your race sucked big time.  Despite the fact you hated the swim, you got hardware.  I have yet to do my first and expect the swim to be ugly for the first time out, but I would be pretty thrilled with your results.  No, I would be psyched!

At least you know what you want, I think !
