Gas in 1987 - 85 cents a gallon

When I left college in 1998 it was still well under a dollar. That's 11 years later.

We just bought an SUV.

Wife asked me to go fill up the tank.

Exactly $100.00!!!

I told her to put it in neutral on any down slopes.

Heh, I was thinking about that on my recent bike rides.....  IM training has made me a big proponent of coasting wherever possible

Likewise, I have changed my driving habits a little, on the theory that every little bit helps.  I accelerate slowly and evenly, rather than jumping out (and ending up at the same red light as everyone else  ).  I coast easy behind people coming up to stoplights/signs.  I drive staedy as possible, rather than surges (good advice for the bike too).  and I check my tire pressure.

Might want to check that. I've heard (though, since I drive a stick, I don't worry about it) that if you do that on an automatic tranny, it can foam up the transmission fluid, rendering it useless for cooling the transmission. Wouldn't want to spend all the saved gas money on a new tranny...

When I filled up our 12 passenger van last week it cost me $110 and it wasn't even empty, I think it was sitting just between 1/4 and E.  Lots of walking around town or just staying home.  I even offered to walk to the Wal-Mart today instead of driving (about 3-4 miles, I think) and McFuzz said to wait til he came home and he would take me.

After IM training is over I'm hoping my gas bill will go down a bit.  Driving to OWS, chiropractor, massage etc... is killing me.  It's about an hour 15 from home.  After CDA I'll stick as close to home for training as possible.  Group rides are going to happen maybe once in a while.  No sense in driving 45 min to ride 2-3 hours.  I could of course ride from here but that's making it 55 miles in transit alone.

You should be able to start a new transaction.  You have to complete the current sale, then go through the rigamaroll again where you insert your card, select fuel type, etc.  They started posting the instructions on the gas pumps here a couple months ago.

Here in Jacksonville FL you can't re-swipe your card because so many CC theives were using them to gas up all their homies cars all at one stop.  So they force you to go inside if you want/need more gas.  I always leave with that not so full feeling.

We were at 1.46/L yesterday and have settled in at 1.44/L; that means for my Saturn Ion it now costs about $70 to fill

That's why when I'm not bike commuting I take the bus; I think since Sept I've only taken the car to work about 10 days and those were days I just couldn't get around it.

Congress will not allow drilling in the areas of the US that we have oil, they just blocked drilling last week for the umteenth time.  As long as this continues prices will climb one thing I find ironic is while our oil companys are prevented from drilling China and Cuba are drilling 60 miles off Florida so soon we will depend on China to sell us the oil that they pumped off our coast we can't get the Cuban oil do to the embargo Lets stop this now!! follow the link

My Mini cost me over $50 for the first time this week. It cost me $20 when I bought it.

A tank lasts me 2 weeks though, maybe longer if I just watch how much I drive. I might be buying a Vespa soon...

40 buck in the mazda Protege. 35 miles to the gallon helps. Living a 1000 feet to work helps even more.

Was reading in a web site that the calories burned pedaling a bike would equal that of a gallon of gas at about 3000 miles. That is efficiency.  That being said I must have 20,000 mile tank hanging around my midsection.
