Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30. It was hard to get up as I had gone out to dinner with my good friend the night before. I didn't get in until 10:30 or so. When I got up, I was hurting from all the rich food the night before. I ate a piece of toast to try to get myself feeling a little better. Note: I was still semi-jolly though all of this. I knew what I had eaten...and was ready to face the consequences. I tried to sleep on the way over as it was about an hour away. I was feeling better as we got to the race.

Racked my bike, set up my transition area, talked with some friends, and tried to wake up.
Event warmup:

Nothin'.
Swim
  • 07m 10s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

This is the first swim where I caught a good pair of feet, and stuck with them for most of the race. I really need to do this more often. I placed myself correctly, had a clean start, and had a nice ride. It seemed too easy, but ended up loosing her for the last 50M and quickly realized how much more I had to work to try to keep up. The time is long because the timing mat is at the entrance to T1 (after a significant jog along a sandy beach) and not at the end of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I'm pleased with my swim for once.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

There was congestion at the bike mount place. People were stopping right outside of T1.
What would you do differently?:

No way to control this.
Bike
  • 29m 39s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Lack of sleep, and heavy food made this part a tad uncomfortable. So, I focused on the people headed in the opposite direction. It was over before I realized.
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

Nothing much to see here. There was someone right there in transition watching me, and that made me a bit paranoid and self-conscious. Come to think of it, who was that...and what were they doing there?
What would you do differently?:

Ignore the person? That seems rude.
Run
  • 22m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

If the bike ride was a tad uncomfortable, and this was just plain uncomfortable. No complaints, though. I knew what I getting into when I ate that meal the night before. It was amazing to watch people pass me on the run...it was if I wasn't even moving. I passed most of my time looking at the people running the opposite direction.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was all worth it. I did my best. I improved on my time from last year.
Post race
Warm down:

Convinced my body not to upchuck dinner. It was tasty the first time, but I'm not sure about how it would have been the second time around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My own gluttony:

Thai scallops
Cheese Bread
Escargot
Hawaiian Salad with Fruit and some sort of exciting dressing
Kiawe cooked steak, Brown Rice, Green Vegetables
Red Wine
Bannana's Foster

But, it was fun...and sooooo worth the unease.

Another great race, with another awesome run split, maybe you race faster with an upset tummy !

Maybe at some point you should try to prepare optimal for a race, not eat to much the day before and get a good nights sleep Then again it dose seem to work for you

Ridiculously awesome transition times.  Way to HTFU in trani.  Overall, just a great race, great ranking; imagine if you did real tempo work in training!?  You'd probably be flirting with a top 10 ranking...
