Age Group = 30-34 Athena
Age Group Rank = 35/36
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition, walked around to get body marked. Watched a dispute on racking bikes on the bike rack. For some reason all the guys wanted to be on the other side of the rack. Me and another competitor lucked out. I had an end spot with plenty of room......
Event warmup:

Walked around with sil, mil and four year old niece waiting for my swim time. Played on playground teeter-totter.
Swim
  • 08m 54s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

I panicked. I undertrained in the pool and it really showed. I went out too fast and started breathing too hard...I also felt really warm....I couldn't catch my breath....I really wanted to stop right there and then but I kept moving forward. I let others pass and then established a little rhythm but by that time the swim was over.
What would you do differently?:

Swim More.
Transition 1
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

Tried to get my composure back after a terrible swim. I also was nervous so I worked on slowing down and breathing.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions more.
Bike
  • 51m 45s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 14.41 mile/hr
Comments:

I know this bike course and have ridden it in other races. I knew I could handle it and finish strong. As I progressed through the course, I became really nauseous and gagged a couple times. I wasn't sure if I had over hydrated or what was going on....my stomach wasn't upset. It was more of just an overall feeling of being a little off. Again, I stuck it out and kept peddling. As I approached the end of the bike I tried to hydrate as best I could.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a good pace for me. I know I will speed up as I train more and lose some weight.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Fairly good transition for me....always can be faster but I was happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

Practice Transitions
Run
  • 48m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 15m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Grabbed gatorade on the way out of T2....a mistake....I physically could not drink it. At the first aid station, I switched to water and also poured some on my head....that helped quite a bit. Unfortunately most the run was a walk. I've had a lot of metatarsal foot pain recently so this was more of a walk than I would have liked. By the end of the race, my foot and left calf were really sore and tight. I just tried to keep moving to just finish.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, even if it means that the training sessions are mostly walking, and ice my foot religiously.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and got more water. Met up with Jimbo and family. Also, I got to meet Enders Shadow...she spotted my BT Tattoo...that was nice!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and foot injury.

Event comments:

Good well run race......a good course to start the season with...it really demonstrated my weaknesses and how I need to get serious about training to improve this season.
