Pre-race routine:

Weather was awful the night before the race. We drove from Chicago and drove through about the worst storm I've ever driving through. High winds, sheets of rain, and there were even tornadoes in the area. Talk about white knuckles! Got into town finally, checked into the hotel and slept like a baby.
Event warmup:

Got to the race site about an hour before the start. Got our race packet set up transition, hit the bathrooms, did a little warm up run, had a gu, put on the wetsuit and headed to the water.
Swim
  • 11m 49s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a bad swim. Definately went better than last year. I felt good until the turn around but didn't run out of gas like I did last year. The first one of the year is always tough.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 15m 46s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.68 mile/hr
Comments:

The out part was great. I was averaging about 24 miles an hour. The back part was directly into the wind so it made for a challenging ride back. All in all I was pretty happy with it. I destroyed my time from last year and felt stronger.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 44m 11s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I died at about mile 3. The wheels just came off. It got really hot and a bunch of the run was in direct sun. I remember not being sure if I'd finish the last mile. Ugh! I got through it but it was ugly. I feel if anything, my running has suffered in the off season.
Post race
Warm down:

Found my girlfriend and had some food. They kept running out of water which was more than a little frustrating. Had to go back to transition to get my waterbottle from my bike. We stuck around a little to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Event comments:

They really need to fix thier problem with running out of water at the finish. I think the same thing happened last year. Just better planning. Other than that it was a great race.
