You're in Racine so practice out there even when it's not smooth.  Last year I was nervous about this even after doing some practicing in L Mi.  The day b4 the race I checked in and went with Schmiz for a test swim.  Very wavy that afternoon and freaked me out some taking in water, trying to breath, sight, etc.  Race day, very calm and flat which I would imagine it ususally is at that time of the morning.  I am glad I suffered some the day b4 in the choppy waters because if it turned out to be those conditions on race day, I was at least more prepared.

Wondering when someone would start this thread.  Yeah, let's pray for some calmer water this year.  Last year was just plain old wicked.  Took me 21+ minutes to finish that bad boy.  And I did a 600 just a month earlier right around 12 minutes!!!  WTF.

Peggy, maybe this year we won't have to worry about slowing up to help someone that is near drowning.

David!  No saying the 'D' word around Aidana...

No, Aidana, dear...she wasn't near drowning...she just didn't have the long arms or vocal capabilities I had to wave down a life guard...she was slightly uncomfortable, that's all.

Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Don't worry about it.  And yes, it is ALL mental.  In your head.  Just remember, you do NOT have to do freestyle the entire time.  Breast stroke if you have to.  Heck, I even flopped over and did back stroke for the first leg of the swim last year.  Anything to get to that first bouy.

AND, from what I hear, it was one of the worst swims in the history of the event.  High waves.  Pretty decent current.  I would be very, VERY surprised if it was that bad again this year.

Besides, we all got your back, donkey or no donkey.

Alright folks.

We need two things on the Sprint race day this year.

1.  Calm water.  As everyone knows, last year was a fluke (Yeah, I'm calling God out on this one ).  So it will be calm this year.  It can't be like that two years in a row.  Heck, I would settle for half as rough!

2.  No wind.  I don't remember wind last year, but I don't think there was any.  I'm getting really tired of racing in wind.  Training in wind.  Wind, wind, wind.  So I'm ordering no wind too.

Don't care about temperature, clouds or anything else as long as the water is calm and so is the air!

I have another darn PR to set.

so, i guess i'm in (because I have no choice not to be)

after I had all the flooding issues, and the moving to a new apartment issue, I contacted the group that puts on the race to see if there was any possible way to get a refund, but of course since they are natzi's, they said no.

so i may drown in the lake, but at least I'll make it interesting for everyone else

The wetsuit makes you buoyant, so flip over and join me as we trek in doing the backstroke!

Whoops, sorry, this is the Sprint thread and I'm doing the 1/2.  Join me anyways!

Did you ask if you could use the money to enter for next year?  Many times they allow that.  Then again, that is usually for medical issues.  But still, might be worth asking.

And if now, then as was said above, flip over and back stroke it.  Do whatever you gotta do to finish it.  Back stroke.  Breast stroke.  Side stroke.  Doggie paddle.  Anything to get through it.  Then have a blast on the super flat bike ride.

I would love to do some OWS training, but my schedule is a little wacky. I work overnights in downtown Milwaukee, so if there is anything going on before 7am I am out.

Plus, I don't have a car, so I would need to catch a ride with someone else...if thats possible.

I can get it applied to next year, but I'm not sure if I'll be around Milwaukee. I guess my best chance is to give it a go this year...
