remove arms.

  • Take off goggles and swim cap.
  •

How do you take off your goggles and swim cap, if you have removed your arms?

I have other body parts that are incredibly talented.

    hmmmmmmmmm.............interesting............

    1. I'd bike without socks. Yes, you're right, it'll be easier to put them on in T2. There's also nothing worse than running in wet socks. Yuck.

    2. Yes, do stuff while you're running. You'll save yourself a lot of time. I usually do things in this order -

    1. Put goggles on forehead (so I can see while running). This usually happens as soon as I stand up in the water.
    2. Unzip wet suit, remove arms.
    3. Take off goggles and swim cap.

When I reach transition, I drop the goggles and swim cap onto my area at the same time I'm pulling my wetsuit down. Helmet goes on next, followed by shoes.  (That gives me maximum time to de-dizzify before I have to lean over to get shoes strapped.)

I tend to have fairly fast transitions, but have never been formally schooled. So, take it for what it's worth.

x2 what Deanna said, on both.  I bike without socks now, and it's way easier.  As far as doing stuff on the run (or trudge) up to transition, I'm generally goggles up (on forehead) and I start unzipping as soon as I'm standing up in the water.

I'm assuming they will again have little foot baths to get the sand off?

I was planning on bypassing  the trays and have a couple water bottles to spray the paws off with. If I remember correct those trays get pretty full of sand and I won't be first in.

I used em last year and they were pretty full of sand but if you do it quickly (high step in and out) you get 90% of the sand off.  Worked for me.

Things I have done or will do today to get ready for SOR:

-Clean and lube my bike chain
-Buy a peppy balloon to tie to my trans. spot
-Practice exiting a wet wetsuit (never raced in a wetsuit before)
    -Eat pasta
    -Check BT religiously
-Talk about water temps and the forecast to anyone who will listen

    Anyone else?

I'm bringing my own bucket for feet cleaning and hurl containment post-race.

Stomach acid probably does a good job getting all of the sand off.

The chance of rain for tomorrow has gone from 40% on Tuesday to 80% today. Nice.

EDIT: They're now putting the water temp on the SOR website--56 degrees.

As a general rule, if it is plain old rain, race goes on. If it is lightning, at race start they will either (a) delay if it looks like a storm just passing through or (b) cancel if there is no end in sight and lightning and thunder.

    Hey Peeps

I drove by the lake at lunch and the buoys are in the water, the only thing is they look to be set 1/2 the distance closer to shore than normal . They looked to be place and were right in line with the normal swim area buoys (30-50' from shore) the city of Racine uses.

If they stay there, it should equate to warmer/calmer water?

You must be a doctor/banker/similar, 'cuz you take lunch pretty early..... Thirty to fifty feet from shore sounds kinda close - I'd be concerned about a rougher ride this close to shore than say 100 yards out.

IMO, unless the wind shifts to a more onshore direction, the water's gonna be cold regardless.

My wife and family said that at least one person was taken away, during the Blue Wave Sprint, with a severe case of hypothermia.  It was one of 2 or three people that tried to do it without a wetsuit.

    Not smart.

BTW, anyone else as disappointed with the race quality (not your own results, but the organization) this year?

    I am.

    1. Expo was cramped and seemed to be unorganized, especially the room with the check in.
    2. Swag wasn't as good (although I'm seeing that in quite a few races this year compared to last, is anyone else?)
    3. No data on wave start times.  I didn't know when I was going off till I got down to the start line.  And I wasn't alone.  Seemed as if no one knew.
    4. Bike racks not numbered, which they were last year.  Seriously, any race with more than 200 participants should be numbered.  Otherwise it is a clusterf**k of a mess.
    5. And the worst is the continued waiting for the official results to be posted online.  Still waiting.  Something seriously wrong must have happened.

Those are just a few things that kind of bugged me this year.

    Anyone else?

I wasn't impressed with the organization at check-in either. The girl with her laptop asked me what a "wave" was when I asked which one I was in. I had kinda wished they put on the website that transition was open throughout the Women's Tri also...not knowing this I was there at 6:15 AM, only to wait around two hours. But the shirt fits me great, I PR'd, and my spouse says that once it started the volunteers and staff seemed really plentiful and on the ball. So I left feeling good in the end.

    I'll give my .02

    1. Expo/ check in didn't seem ready around 4:15 time, maybe it got better. I had the honor of wearing a light blue cap , even though I was doing the sprint and not the HIM.

    2. No wave times, seems like a no brainer, I understand they could change , but at least the groupings coudl have been announced better

    3. Swim course seemed short, which is fine by me

    4. Incomplete result times, kind of bummer, would like to see my T times and bike, I was close to a couple other finishers time wise and would like to see where I missed 30-45 seconds.

    5. Awards at finish-I have a 1st place and really came in 4th for my division-the guy asked what division I told him , saw no numbers ahead of me and said "you're first" I said do you want my number to write down and he said no-Having a feeling there are alot of mis given awards

    6. Run course change ? I thought I would be going through the zoo and have one less hill-oh well

    7. I benefitted from the first come first serve bike racking , but could understand people not digging it.

all in all I thought it was pretty good race set up.
