Total Time = 1h 14m 47s
Overall Rank = 293/756
Age Group = 40
Age Group Rank = 31/66
Pre-race routine:

0430 wake up, shower, glad I packed the night before. Woke the Wife and kids, headed to Dunkin Doughnuts, then to the race. Began fueling with Hammer products, actually fueled for 3-4 days before the race.
Pre lubed inner wet suit with baby shampoo and h20, for lubrication.
Event warmup:

Stretching routine, calves, ITB, back, arms, quads. feet. Early pre race 100 yd swim, this really helped during the actual race, especially with breathing.
Swim
  • 07m 56s
  • 450 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Should have drafted more, I was a bit reluctant, all I saw were feet in
my face, I also almost collided with people who were doing the breath stroke and also side strokes from previous wave groups!
Swallowed some water, Utililzed bilat breathing at times, but should have done it more.
What would you do differently?:

Should have been more agressive, I could have cut the swim to 6-7minutes.
Should have also stuck close to the buoys.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

I pre-lubed the wetsuit with baby shampoo and h20 prior to the swim,
(old navy trick), the suit just slid off without any difficulty.
What would you do differently?:

Should have counted my transition time.
Bike
  • 31m 30s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Should have pushed a little harder. I did not have bike shoes, I had my
running shoes on with my power grip pedals, the bike performed well.
I should get some cycling shoes soon.
I was very suprised with the amount of coarse support and number of Police and Traffic officials. They did a great job with traffic managaement. Good signs and the course was well marked.
What would you do differently?:

Use cycling shoes, especially for the longer distances.
Transition 2
  • 02m
What would you do differently?:

Again work on timing in transitions.
Run
  • 26m 55s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Thanks to Hammer Nutrition and fueling, I never bonked or cramped, in fact my endurance increased during the run. I felt like I could have ran a couple of sub 8 min miles without difficulty.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely should have gave it all I had. I could have shaved at least a minute or two off the run at least for the second half of the run.
Live and learn.
Post race
Warm down:

Hugging kids and wife, easy stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not knowing the course layout, Next race will know my strengths on this course.

Event comments:

Great race, I will definitely do it again, good people, all volunteers/staff very friendly. Excellent amenities, food, and very well set up. I have spectated at a few triathlons, but I have to say the crowd, and the cheering makes it one of my fav's so far. My only gripe is the race started about 20minutes late. There was a dedication ceremony at the beginning of the race which was heartfelt and moving, and also motivational.

Im glad I chose this race, It was my 1st triathlon and hope there will be more to come.
