Overall Rank = 658/754

Age Group Rank = 59/65
Pre-race routine:

Got down to Hyannis on Friday and went to the beach to get race pack. A lot of people were swimming the course. We got there later than I wanted to and I didn't go in, but I should have. We went to dinner with Rob (rcberto) and his wife. Getting the kids to bed was easier than I thought, which allowed to be in bed early.
Event warmup:

Rob picked me up and set up transition. Pretty uneventful, except for the fact that I forgot my Garmin in the hotel room. Probably could have used it on the run.
Swim
  • 09m 13s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am very happy with my swim. I shaved 5 mins off my last race. Water was warm, I stayed to the outside so I could site off the people to my right. Went off track a bit and got hit a couple of times, but overall good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Try and do the course before the race.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I thought I did better than last race. Had a race belt and wore tri suit under wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 43m 36s
  • 10 miles
  • 13.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I did much better than last race. I learned to use my big ring since then and it helped a lot. Lots of people past me, but I passed some people this time. There were a couple of stretches where we had to go in a single line, and some of the "pros" were yelling to hurry up. With all due respect with the folks who are actually trying to place, but cut the sh*t. It didn't bother me, but there we a lot of first timers there and I could see how riding up hill in a single file line around a corner could be stressful enough without someone yelling at them to move it. If you don't like being involved in a race with newbies, then don't race. Go start a race where only experience veterans can race. Rant off.
What would you do differently?:

Use an aero bottle. Clipless pedals go on Monday.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Since was already wearing my running shoes, this had to be under a minute. I just racked my bike and took my helmet off. This makes my running time even worse than it looks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 41m 32s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 11m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

This was horrible. It took me a 1.5 miles to get my legs under me. I had to pee, and stomach was sloshing around. I walked most of the first 2 miles. Last half was good. I ran it all and felt good. I little disappointed because I could have gone under 1:30 overall if I just HTFU.
What would you do differently?:

Lots of bike/run bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Packed up and chatted with Rob and Andy(non BT) and actually ran into a girl that I went to high school with. She was racked right next to me. Small world. The kids seem to have no interest in the race, so I had to go find them on the beach somewhere. I would have like to stay for the awards, but the little one was ready for a nap. So wasn't daddy.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run.

Event comments:

This race was great. The weather was great, the volunteers were every where, the course was perfect. I will definitely do this again.

wow, look at that improvement, great job!!  next one will be even BETTER, especially with those clipless pedals!!  congratulations .  i know the feeling on the run, where you drank plenty on the bike and you're sloshing around and your legs feel like poop.  but way to hang in there and tough it out!

Hi,

This is my first race.

Any suggestions on what to eat and drink for breakfast before the race?

Should I just go with a Dunkin Turbo and then hit the water?

Thanks,

The Dude
