Total Time = 2h 25m 15s
Overall Rank = 36/346
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/44
Pre-race routine:

Got up insanely early at before the crack of stupid to drive down to West Point. This after not going to sleep until midnight...hooray for 3 1/2 hours of sleep.

After arriving at the race venue and parking I had to walk 1/2 mile or so to the transition area in the pitch dark. Might be time to invest in a headlamp. Racked my bike and chatted with other Team Sportfactory/NAMCers.
Event warmup:

None, we were told to get out of the water when we went over to the lake to try and warm up.
Swim
  • 26m 41s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time Trial start so there wasn't a washing machine at the beginning like most tri's. The bad part was that you really had to be lucky to find feet to draft off of.
What would you do differently?:

Go to the pool more and maybe get another swim lesson. This is a good swim for me, but I need to get significatly faster to be competative, I gave away 4 minutes on the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

In and out
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, time includes run from lake and out of transition.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 40s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.40 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where Cycle Jam from Thursday night came back to haunt me. I usually climb well even on my TT bike. Today even the small rollers on this course were tough for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I enjoyed the Cycle Jam class on Thursday so it was worth it to be a little sore today. This is a C race so I wasn't too concerned about the time. I passed a ton of people on the bike and only was passed by 2 guys at the end (both of which I promptly dusted in the first 1/2 mile of the run)
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

In and out
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 47m 7s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

I really liked this run course except for the hill. Felt great the first 4 miles and then faded a bit toward the end. My legs were really sore from the bike and Cycle Jam on Thursday night. Overall I was pretty pleased with this run, although I know I can run faster off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I wish I could have kept my feet turning over the entire time like I did for the first 5k. Good run overall
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and cooled off, Captain Slow brought me a plate of food and a chair (Thanks Bill!). Cheered on the rest of the NAMC crew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was really sore from the Cycle Jam class on Thursday and from not backing off on workouts this week. I wouldn't change anything though because 1) I really enjoyed the class on Thursday and 2) It's a C race and I have a Peak Race coming up in August that is much more important.

Event comments:

Jim at GA Multisports always puts on a great race. I will definitely do this one again next year.

Very solid times, especially on tired legs and 3.5 hours of sleep.

Excellent race for a C race. Keep your eye on Steelhead. You should be in top shape by that point, and should smash that 5 hour barrier.

Sub-1:30 moved you into 'uber-swimmer' status ... cannot imagine spending that much time at the pool.

Factor out everthing else and you had a solid race.  Factor in no taper, trashing your legs a couple nights before and that it is a "C" and you're AG'er have trouble coming up at the other races. (Thankfully I aged out of your group this year!

Great race Brett!  You must have been rolling out of T2 because I never saw you.  I did see a what looked like a little tornado of wind leaving transition...it must have been you.

Nice race! You still destroyed it for no taper c race (I am glad I missed cycle jam though!)

I agree with Heather...when I saw you ending your run you didn't look like you were fading at all. I hope someday I can run like you.

Great Race! Excellent transition times!

Heckuva an effort, Brett, on 3.5 hours of sleep!!  Your competition should be counting their blessings that the Rocket was only partially fueled and ready to go...

Fast for any race, much less a 'C'..You must be in strong mid-season form.

Nice day..

Congratulations, Brett!  Great race, especially, like others have said, for a C race on little sleep.  Cycle Jam won't happen again for another couple of years so I'm glad you were able to do it and still finish this race strong!

What would an A race be like with sleep and a taper and no hard class Thursday before the race?

Great job...interesting how we all have different perspectives of fast and slow
