Overall Rank = 58/
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 15/
Pre-race routine:

Drove to the race site. Got there around 5:45am. Got my gear, and headed to packet pick up. Rode bike as it was about a quarter to half mile walk. Not sure.. it was early, and everything just seemed far.
Event warmup:

None whatsoever outside of normal hustle and bustle of the pre race.
Swim
  • 27m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt really good for me. It's my limiter for sure, but I definitely had no problems during this race. No Fatigue, no slowing down over distance, none of that. Felt strong from start to finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for this race. Try to find some speed in the future.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Good T1 time. Efficient, no issues.
What would you do differently?:

Steady as she goes.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 28s
  • 25 miles
  • 20.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Well.. clearly, this should have been better. This was my lowest / slowest event in terms of Age Group ranking. That's not normal for me. I really think this came down to time in the saddle on my new bike. Not enough. Everything went well, and perhaps I could have pushed harder, but what good does thinking that now do me. I have to improve here.
What would you do differently?:

Train on my bike more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

A good T2. I put on socks, so I could have been faster, I just didn't want to chance a blister. I'd prefer to go sockless and have many times, but since I changed over to Inspires from Alchemy's, I blister in the Arch every time I do it. Perhaps a pre-race band-aid on that spot. Next time.
What would you do differently?:

Pre race band aid?? :)
Run
  • 48m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Just an RCH above 47:xx.. who cares. I should be faster here too. I am not happy with a 10k run in the 48's.. really, would not be much happier with one in the 47's either. I felt good, and thought I was pushing it. Was not having any troubles. Makes mme think it was a bit long, but it was the same distance for everyone else too. Anyway. No reason to be doing 48 minute 10k's. Unacceptable.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Hit the misting tent for a few. Is there anything better than a post race misting tent? Yes, a post race ice cold beer. I had three of those as well. Hung out at the NAMC turn to the finish. AKA cowbell corner. I also asked the announcer (ATS Tony) to call KM, K big mac M.. and he did. I laughed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm just having an off year all around in Triathlon. Nothing has felt 'right', including St. Anthony's, where I performed well. This race felt 'right', but I know I am can do better. Perhaps I have turned the corner. This was a WPL PR for me, by one minute over last year. My times in all events are remarkably similar to last years times. I'm not sure what to make of that. There are a lot of differneced between the two events in terms of where I was physically and what I was working towards in 07.

Event comments:

West Point Lake is a keeper on the Schedule. All GA Multisports events are well done.

Ron,

It was great to meet up with you at the race. We'll have to do it some more. From my spot it looks like you had a good race. Sure it could have been faster, but it still was faster than last year by a minute. btw, my garmin said 6.28 miles on the run if that helps.

Ron,

Don't be so hard on yourself, you have really gotten better since I have known you. More swimming and cycling and you will be a force in our AG.

Good luck

A PR ... and there was beer at the end.  What could be better?

Congrats on the results, even if it did not feel "right" (coming for a guy who likes the run course at Tugaloo!).

Btw, I agree - Jim Rainey is a class act.  Tony's a great guy too.

Are you whining about a race specific PR?

I knew you were going to have a good day and you did. Your consistency with these very fast times shows that your hard work over the last two years has paid off. Sure, we can all be faster. Yes, fine tuning is always on the schedule. It will happen. But, this is a long way from Ft. Yargo baby.

Congrats and enjoy the solid performance.

...and thanks for texting me the results. Really appreciate that.

Man...wish I could be so slack in my races...  Nice effort, Ron, and congrats on the WP PR...as you noted, perhaps this marks a shift in the season and results from here on out will be what you expect...

Great race.  It was a PR AND I know you had more in your legs for the run.  So, another PR is not far away.  Hopping from PR to PR makes all this fun!

I am not a coach and not being negative, but mid-season break may do you some good.   You have been going hard for months.

Congrats on the PR, Ron.  I think it is the nature of a triathlete to always self-analyze and look for ways to improve, so I understand your thinking... but it was still a good race... don't forget to give yourself the credit you deserve .
