Pre-race routine:

Woke up and arrived late, no routine.
Event warmup:

Register setup transition and straight to start corral
Swim
  • 34m 49s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

No warm-up, slightly breathless 1st 200-300m. Felt better after that. Shulder really started to hurt bad about half way. Pain and lack of strenth made stroke eccentric which made going straight a little harder. Had to peek alot to navigate. In hindsight, I don't think I could have completed the swim w/o a wetsuit whcih means I probably shouldn't have been out there in the first place.

Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Swim time includes Transitions time. When I got into transiton a spectator was standing on my towel and I couldn't get around his big fat ass. After asking him to move I had to order him out of the way. I reached into my pocket for my gel and it was gone.I picked up the cliff blocks the race was giving out. There was a lot of traffic in T1 becuase fo the sprint. There was a traffic jam at the bike mount and I had to stop because a woman in front of me started futzing with her chain. I puched my bike up the hill out of T1 and then mounted.
What would you do differently?:

Be prepared for race by having extra gels and leaving them with bike.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 8s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.73 mile/hr
Comments:

1st loop I gagged down those cliff blocks (never again they suck). I felt weak, probably from poor nutrtiton leading up to race and poor breakfast.
At the start of 2nd loop I felt so crappy and close to boking I wanted to cry and I thought about quitting. About midway through 2 loop I started to feel better from cliff block and was able to focus more on my race. Last loop I was mentally in the race but I was still slower than average. Technically my riding was fine I just was lacking physically. The last loop my back started to really hurt, too.
What would you do differently?:

Be prepared with nutriton.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 included in bike split.
My back was so sore and stiff I couldn't run in transition. I paused 30 sec to stretch, put on my shoes and ran.
What would you do differently?:

nothing I think the stretching was a good call.
Run
  • 44m 50s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt wiped out at start of run. I remebered Mark Allen saying, "you don't have to feel good to have a good race." So I ran. My stomach felt really crampy. I worried that this would affect my hyration and running. SO I sipped a little at each aid station and I felt better after about 15 minutes. No mile markers, so I had no idea wahat my pace was, but I felt really, really slow. I had to walk up the hills. However, my tactics of knowing when to walk and drinking seemed to pay of and I felt stronger 1/2 way through run, but still slow. After I saw my time I was surprised by my run time. I wonder if the course was short. But I'll consider the run good for effort and pacing
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit and put my stuff away before eating

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor breakfast and spotty training, no gels. My decision making after starting race was good I think.

Event comments:

Free hot food from Boy Scouts for racers, very cool! The raffle sucked, not cool. Bike course and run course poorly marked and not supervised. The volunteers that were there were great, just too few of them.
