Overcast
Total Time = 1h 17m 52s
Overall Rank = 152/791
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 17/71
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 had an english muffin with PB&J and some gatorade. i was contemplating bagging the race since I felt that I had not trained adequately. Decided to HTFU and packed my car and headed out.
Event warmup:

As usual I got to the site super early, set up my transition area and hit the john about 4 times. Took a short swim to get a feel for the water temp, which was fine and waited for the start of the race.
Swim
  • 16m 4s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

As the earlier waves went out you could see the current pushing everyone to the right. I started the wave to the far left and near the front of the group. At the gun I started with the group and quickly distances myself from the pack. At Ironclad in May I think the cold water pysched me out. Today I stuck with my regular breathing and was right on with my sighting as I went right under each buoy at the turns. My storke feltgood throughout.
What would you do differently?:

Not much maybe start more towards the front in future races.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Overall it went well, I watched to BT video to get any new tips which helped me out.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe invest in tri shoes in the future.
Bike
  • 38m 50s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.54 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where I had mjor issues last year with my tires and wnated to do much better this year. I pushed the bike the whole time and did well hiting 22 mph on the straight aways. I still have work to do on the bike as it is my weak link. I am happy with my results so I can't complain. I actually passed people today, most of them were on mountain bikes, but I still passed them.
What would you do differently?:

My time riding to increase my speed and endurance.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

In and out pretty quickly.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 20m 2s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Heading into transition I looked at my watch and realized that coming in under 1:20 was within my reach. I hit the course and got into a grovve prettyy fast. My legs felt good and passed numerour people. I only got passed by two.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a bagel and had some gatorade I had brought.

Event comments:

The post race spread is not the greatest, but overall its not a bad event. It's close by and relataively inexpensive. I took almost 14 minutes off of my time from last year, and realize that Ironclad wa just a bad day for me.

Wow, taking 14 minutes off your time is HUGE!  Well done.  Killer swim and fantastic Transition times!

Funny that it seems everyone has the same consensus:  despite the lack of race support, we all will do it again.

Nice meeting you--thanks for finding me after I flaked on the BT "meeting". Glad you had a good race. Great run in particular!
