Subject: Kansas 70.3 and then Steelhead 70.3
Just wrapped up Kansas 70.3 and am looking forward to Steelhead in 7 weeks. What do I do about training? Do I just pick up in my training plan 7 weeks out or do I do something different? Anyone doing the same? Any suggestions?

I'm kinda of in the same boat though I have 9 weeks between races. I'm doing the Muncie Endurathon on July 12, and looking at another HIM on the weekend of Sept 13/14, I have two to choose from and not sure which one at this point, wanna finish Muncie before sending the $$$.

Looked at your logs and race reports and found nothing. Not sure what plan your following now or how Kansas went, not to mention how long you've been doing tri's, etc. You might want to post more info on your background. That may make it easier for experienced folks to comment.

I'm using the 20 week HIM BT plan, and plan on taking it easy for two weeks after the first race, then getting back at it with 7 weeks to go, but the second HIM is more of a B race, so I'll be adding some more rest days when I think it's needed but I was thinking I'd kinda follow the last 7 weeks of the BT plan, just with some more rest time.

Look forward to seeing some other post on this very subject.

Good luck!

I did the Liberty HIM on Saturday and I'm also doing Steelhead.  This coming week is all about recovery and lower intensity until this coming weekend.  What you do from there depends on where Kansas fit into your summer plan.  For me, Saturday was just a training day/C race.  Not sure what Kansas was for you and whether or not Steelhead is  your A race.  Totally depends on what your season "plan" was to begin with, so its difficult for us to give you much guidance without more detail.  Good luck.

If it were me doing it, I'd lay low this week and then start next week at week 6 or 7 of the plan I just used [BT beginner HIM, RPE], as long as it's not a recovery week, then just do the 3 build/1 recover again twice and hit Steelhead hard! I went on a very easy ride today with my wife and picked up the pace a couple of times. The only reason I knew I did a race yesterday body-wise was because my taint was screaming at me the last 30 minutes!

It's one of the few mentionable body parts that touches the bike seat; kind of the "buffer zone" between private parts. I've also heard it called "chode" and "grundle" but none of those came up in the Dictionary online.

I'm doing Steelhead as well, but also have another HIM in between the two. I'm already antsy to race again, but I'm recovering this week, then full-speed ahead next week.

Are you looking forward to the NON-hills of Steelhead? It's going to feel pancake flat after KS!!

God you have no idea. Steelhead has true rolling hills. There was nothing rolling about Kansas. BTW, I find it utterly amazing that you can balance a Phd. and being a monster triathlete. Well done!!

Jazz--are you just going to pick up at week 6 of your training schedule and follow that up to Steelhead?

I have a coach, so I don't have to think-I can save the thinking for the PhD part

And yes, Steelhead has more 'rolling' hills- something which KS didn't have. Nothing 'rolling' about KS- just constant climbing!! I think the total climb last year was about 1200 feet- maybe?

I plotted it on BT's Route Creator to get 1,040' of climbing.

Steelhead '07 Bike Route

A few good climbs at miles 2, 30 and 48.  They're sustained enough that you don't just roll over them... The one at mile 2 kind of sucks as you're trying to get your HR down after a 400 yard run up the beach to T1.

That sounds wonderful. Ahhh... so much better than the almost 3000' at KS. As I remember, there were only 3 or so spots where you could, sort of, get out of your saddle. The only other thing that cuts down your average speed are some turns. I can't wait!!!!
