Age Group Rank = 13/
Pre-race routine:

woke at 4:15, left by 5am. drive to race site (2 hours): Breakfast spread out over drive includes: bagel with PB, cliff bar, banana, bottle of GU2O and one GU pack 30 minutes prior to race start. (1000 calories) - check in, set up transition, that's it.
Event warmup:

5 minutes of freestyle and breast stroke. A little pee in the suit to stay warm. (kind of gross but functional)
Swim
  • 25m 6s
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

good swim - came out 6th or so (in my wave) according to my wife.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. couldn't draft because they were going way off course. (or so I thought) They still ended up ahead of me so maybe I should have stayed with them. note to self for next time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

good transition. my goal was under 2 minutes and I smoked that. preperation and practice beforehand payed off.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 47m
  • 20 miles
  • 11.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Good balnce of hard while still saving some juice for the run. Started to doubt myself as I was getting passed by a bunch of guys, but I if I went harder, I would have crapped out on the run.

I have to continue riding off road to work on my decending skills. That seemed to be my achillies heel.

had to back off on my drinking because I could feel it sitting in my stomach. Only drank one bottle with about 2 gu's.
What would you do differently?:

practice downhill more. Other than that, good ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

good and fast. hurried, but not rushed.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 33m 55s
  • 5 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

good run. had to walk a few steep sections, but planned on doing that. made up for it by running fast downhill.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walk for 10 minutes and drink

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike !!! (still working on it though)

Event comments:

fun race. I performed well overall and beat my goal of sub 3 hours.

See... You doubted yourself in some areas and did a killer job. We all must start a new adventure in order to prove the worth of our existance.

Keep up the training and keep that knee solid.
