Overall Rank = 472/494
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 9/9
Pre-race routine:

Woke up in camp, had a bagel w/ pb and a banana while packing up my stuff. Loaded myself, Sarah and Maxie the dog in the car and headed down the hill. Bodymarking, time chip and off to set up transition. Meet Bbmoozer...she was about 3 spots down from me in the same wave (lucky 13).
Event warmup:

None to speak of...hung around chatting with some donkeys and Sarah.
Swim
  • 09m 2s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ok, ok, I walked most of the thing. I should have swum, and I tried to for a bit, but most of my wave was walking and I couldn't get around them. One girl made a comment about it not being fair that I was so tall (really...when's the last time you were able to talk to someone on the swim course if you weren't hanging off a kayak?)
What would you do differently?:

I should have swum more. But my time was good (for me)! (I put average for the swim because there is no option for hysterical...I was laughing most of the time.)
Transition 1
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

The walking during the swim bit me in the ass on the trudge up to transition...ugh. I walked all of that (which I believe is included in the swim time) and to my transition spot because I needed to bring my heart rate down. Wetsuit got a little stuck coming off in spite of the nifty ankle zippers.
What would you do differently?:

Not walk the swim so I can run into transition.
Bike
  • 1h 26m
  • 22 miles
  • 15.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm guessing on my exact time. My bike computer wasn't working right, and for some reason, they lumped my bike and T2 time together. The first hill out of transition is a bitch. After that, the course is pretty flat. Took me a little while to work up to it, but I managed to do most of the bike in my big ring (that is HUGE for me). I was able to sustain aero for longer periods of time thanks to the fit I had done on Thursday. Felt pretty smooth for the most part. I do need to work on using the aero bottle and on getting bottles on the down tube. I did ok, but I think I could have used more fluid. Oh, and I was passed by TONS of people...including Peter who stopped to chat (sorry for the over share there, Pete) and Lori (who went on to place 2nd in Athena). When we turned around to head back, we got some nifty wind...that was fun.
What would you do differently?:

Need to bike more and get better in aero. Also, some chamois butter would have helped...
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

According the race results, my T2 was 1:28:04...I ain't THAT slow, people! My T2 time is normally pretty good. This one was a little slower because I had to put on socks...
What would you do differently?:

practice T2
Run
  • 44m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Yup...walked up the hill. Dang thing...ugh. I walked most of the up hills because I'm on the clutzy side and I really didn't feel like falling on the trails. There were no mile markers, so it was hard to gauge where you were (same with the bike). I ran when I felt that my heart rate was at a decent level and during the lovely downhill back to the finish...that felt good, but a little scary.
What would you do differently?:

Run more.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and got yummy spaghetti from the food tent..hung with some donkeys

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training enough.

Event comments:

They need mile markers and transition marshalls.

PJ, you're supposed to swim in a race, not have a book club chat session!

Looking good and glad you got fitted - now you'll hang tough better and longer on the bike!

Super effort, Peggy. That DTC action this winter looks to have been very beneficial.

Nice job Peggy! Wish I could have done that race with you! You are really improving! (and yes, I agree, no chatting during the swim, save it for the bike and run!!)

Nice to meet you peggy! wish we could have chatted more but I know how it goes with set up and potty breaks and body markings and brain zone out on race day... and I always get a bit nervous so I tend to whig out a bit myself.

Nice race and that hill is a *itch!

Yep, walking the swim is always tempting, but you always pay for it later. Great Job, you continue to improve on every facet. Thanks for the support too. I was pretty much out of it after I finished, but I appreciate you guys hanging around for the slow crowd.
