Subject: Recommended Tri Training Reference Book?

Hi,

Does anyone have a book that they particularly like that covers all the basics about tri training? I think I'd like to have a general reference book if there is a good one out there.

Thanks,

Marcy

I bought "Your First Triathalon" by Joe Friel. It covers the basics and has a lot of mental motivators and a very calming and reassuring tone to it. I bought it as a reference to make sure I stay on track with training. It also has some good sprint training plans in there with detailed workouts.

There are a lot of books out there, but I highly recommend two as good books for beginners.  They cover all the basics and give guidance on how to train, but don't get so detailed that you get lost.

Triathlon Training by Michael Finch
Idiots Guide to Triathlon Training

Triathletes Training Bible is a good reference, but I don't recommend it unless you want to spend a lot of time reading and working on your training in very small detail.

I'm currently reading going long and the cyclists training bible by Joe Friel and he seems to know what he's talking about.

X2 Great Book to learn from and have on hand.  Still get more information here though!

I agree on Idiots guide to triathlon training. It was very helpful!

I also liked a book called Triathlon 101. I read it about 5 times before my first triathlon

These two books arn't training related, but they are very inspiring and will make you want to train extra hard!:
1. First Triathlons
2. Becoming an Ironman

(I forgot the names of the authors but if you google the titles, I'm sure it will turn up).

The Triathlete's Training Bible, it covers anything you might need to know.  It's kinda like Tim Noakes' "Lore of Running" for triathlons.  Also Going Long, which gets really into how the body responds to training.

"Going Long" by Joe Friel and Gordo Byrn.  Best book I've ever read on triathlon training.  I've read it at least 6 times and continue to reference it almost every week.
