Total Time = 1h 35m 15s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 40/44
Age Group Rank = 31/34
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and got the wife and daughter going. Paced around the house trying to think of anything I am forgetting. Chenaged my normal breakfast of oatmeal, ground flaxseed and Cin, to peanut butter and bread. This turned out later to be my first mistake of the day.
Event warmup:

Nothing, tried to watch everyone else and learn
Swim
  • 14m 23s
  • 437 meters
  • 03m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

Well I think the time says it all. Conversation in the truck on the ride home.
Wife: Joe when was the last time you really swam, not fell off the tube or rope swing and swam back to the boat?
Me: Well I swam everynight before.
Wife: We have been together 20 years and I dont recall you swimming.
Me: I was in San Diego, before I went to the far east, So 1985....
What would you do differently?:

Not wait 23 years between swimming. Learn how to free style all over. I did almost the entire distance breast stroke.
Transition 1
  • 03m
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, spend less time drying feet, run faster
Bike
  • 39m 18s
  • 9.94 miles
  • 15.18 mile/hr
Comments:

The pre-race for the newbies, the man said remember save some legs for the run after the bike leg. So I rode a nice pace. No problems on the little hill crossing the X-way
What would you do differently?:

Pedal faster and worry about the run afterwards.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
What would you do differently?:

Just gain more experiance
Run
  • 37m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

This is when the breakfast hit me. I was running, er trying to run and hold my but together. I felt like my insides was going to explode.
What would you do differently?:

The very first thing is to learn a better breakfast routine. I have already started running longer distances
Post race
Warm down:

Sprint to the mens room :(
Drove home trying to find food on the way

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Well lack of training,
Inexperiance
Sucking A*& on the swim

Event comments:

I had no clue how this would go. I did not really think I was ready, but was not going to back out. I am now riding farther and faster and running more. I still am lacking on the swimming.

Hey Chin Up!  You ran your first triathlon!  You completed a triathlon!!  That's a great accomplishment!

Now you have a baseline to know how and where you can improve for the next race!

 I say congratulations!!

I think water almost came out of my nose from laughing while reading of your run experience! I am the queen of the upset gut, so I totally can relate!!!

Your next event will go SOOO much smoother if you take the time to figure out fuel while training! Peanut butter and toast for me works every time!

You WILL have a much better experience (read race time) now that your not a first timer! Congrats on finishing your first event!!!

You are a TRIATHLETE!
