Total Time = 1h 50m 25s
Overall Rank = 61/211
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/22
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00 a.m. and made the "power oatmeal". After taking care of business I went outside for a short walk / run to get the blood flowing. Then finished packing up and headed to the race.
Event warmup:

Jumped in the water for a couple of lengths from the beach to the starting buoy. Just to get comfortable in the water.
Swim
  • 16m 7s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

My goal was just to get comfortable in the OW again after my Kueka Lake debacle. The conditions were perfect and I completed the entire distance without feeling the need to hang onto any of the guards boats/boards. When I felt like I needed a breather I switched to breast stroke. I think this is more of a mental barrier though because I felt really comfortable in the front crawl and my sighting was decent.
What would you do differently?:

Just straight front crawl. Have to let go of the "training wheels" so to speak and just swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Aside from the wetsuit getting stuck on my heels and fumbling with my socks (yes I wear socks). Could have been faster. I had a great spot right next to the bike out.
What would you do differently?:

Body glide on my ankle / calf area.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 9s
  • 22 miles
  • 21.95 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall rank surprised me! As did my average speed. But I felt it on the run. I think I went out too hard but this was my 4th tri so it is still a learning experience.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my pacing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Quicker than I thought. I forgot that I put my flask with concentrated Infinit in the side pocket of my transition bag so I had to dig it out which cost me some seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I have EVERYTHING laid out in transition.
Run
  • 31m 30s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs really felt it coming off the bike. The first 500 meters of running was off road over some tree roots and down an embankment with some roots. Thought I was in an XTerra event! I really felt fatigued in the first mile. My legs didn't want to turn over quickly. I thought someone tied anchors to each of my ankles.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water & a banana and walked around a bit to cooldown. I cheered on the finishers coming down the chute.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pacing on the bike? Or perhaps this is just a case of needing more time in the saddle with running right afterwards. Need to learn to run faster with tired legs.

Event comments:

For an innagural event I think it was nicely run.

Great job out there. Way to overcome those open water demons.
