Comments:

Swim was good – I felt really smooth and had a nice feel in the water. Since I was in the last wave I passed a lot of people and was surprised by how many people were veering off course on the way in. Split time was 19.37- which was the fastest women’s swim split and second overall including guys (one guy beat me by 7 seconds).
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1

Comments:

T1 was faster than I expected since I had to waddle my way to the bike since I am still not supposed to put any pressure on my foot. Wetsuit came off surprisingly fast considering it took so long to get on. Put shoes on at T1 instead of putting them on during the bike leg to give my foot a little added support.

Comments:

The bike course was tough. At first it was OK, but after we hit Westover Rd it was a series of 4 uphill climbs. When I finally got up the last hill I remember thinking – thank goodness I don’t have to do the run.
So I’m barreling down Long Ridge at about 35 mph and a car comes across the street right in front of me. There is no time to brake –all I can do is pray that the asphalt won’t hurt as much as I think it will. The cop is wailing his arms at the car and I am screaming (my husband heard me who was cheering at the next intersection) and trying to avoid impact. Somehow the car stops mere inches from me and I am able to swerve around –after fishtailing for what seemed like an eternity I somehow remained on two wheels. I can thank the TargeTraining Sat AM group for helping me with those bike handling skills! I guess I blew out my front tube in the near crash – but I was in too much shock to notice. No wonder the last few miles felt really hard and I almost bailed on every turn! Bike split was 1:16 (not too bad considering). I finished in 1:37.57 –about 18 min ahead of the next male or female Aquabiker.

What would you do differently?:

not almost get hit by a car!
Post race
Warm down:

Cheering on the Tri finishers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

almost getting hit by a car and flatting with 4.5 miles left in the race

Event comments:

Prizes were stuffed teddy bears - kinda lame.
MUST HAVE MORE VOLUNTEERS AND POLICE OFFICERS ON BIKE COURSE!!!
There were a lot of near misses and unfortunately a few accidents.

You smoked the course...sweet you won aquabike as they combined men/women.

I wonder if I met you...

I thought for the course they did a good job of having lots of volunteers and cops on the course. I almost hit a jay walker and on Rt 1 had a car do a u turn in front of me so the whole road was blocked. I swear the urban course makes it a bit challenging for sure.

The shredded up plastic bags that were in the water Saturday were not in the water race day.

Congrats on the win!
