Age Group Rank = 7/36
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at local Motel 6, so up at 5:30 and out the door at 5:45. Very casual about everthing since I'm fighting knee problems and didn't plan on running (at least not hard).
Event warmup:

Lots of stretching and a little jogging on the beach. Hurt the knee, so gave up on that. Got in the water and swam for 5-6 minutes.
Swim
  • 07m 24s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got through the waves and to 1st bouy in a flash. A little current getting to 2nd bouy and then back to beach.
What would you do differently?:

A little better navigation
Transition 1

Comments:

Nothing special
What would you do differently?:

Not rinse off feet

  • 12.68 miles
  • 22.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, no pain in my knee, things were looking up.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Smokin T2 considering the run distances to the Ins/Outs
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 25m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Now here is where it hurt! I took it a bit easy, trying not to hurt it worse. The first 2+ miles was terrible, then my knee pain subsided and I felt OK for the last mile or so.
What would you do differently?:

I'm sure it would be a different race if my knee was right.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a bit and stretched. Talked to a new club member who moved from No. Cal. who had come up to see the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee pain. MRI scheduled for Wednesday

Event comments:

Very flat course. This is the one to do if you want a PR.

Wow. That's a great race with an injured knee as well. Great job, hope the MRI works out OK. Gotta figure that if it starts to feel better after use (loosened up for the last mile), that it's a stretching/flexibility thing. Hope that's all it is.

This was the 1st time that happened.  Normally it just gets worse and worse as I go through an effort.  I hope you are right.
