Subject: To combine or not to combine..
Today I have a pretty intense anaerobic bike/run brick planned (although the run ends as soon as my foot pain shows up). I'm going up to my old college for the workout and while up there would LOVE to get into the pool. Being that its going to be a very intense brick, should I try to find something to do inbetween swimming and the workout to rest, or just make it into a super-brick and do one after the other?

So your brick will be like what, 5 mins?

Regarding rest or swim right after.....Hmmm...I would skip the pool and go to my favorite college hang out for beer, wings, and co-ed watching.  But thats just me.

The plan is to warm up then do a few (5?) work intervals that last 2-6mins, with 1/2 duration rests, then transition to the run and hold zones 4-5a for a couple of miles (or until pain sets in)

Where I live finding a pool to swim is has been difficult so having the opportunity to swim in the university pool is something I'm not going to pass up, although your suggestion is certainly tempting

Since you really want to get into the pool, can you work this order?

  1. swim
  2. bike
  3. run
  4. bar/wings/co-ed watching

Have fun whatever you do!

Why are you doing anaerobic work?

Do a mini tri. Pick out specific distances, time it, set up a transition area, and make it like a real race. I love doing mini tris! It makes great practice for race day
