Sunny
Total Time = 8h 30m
Overall Rank = 48/135

Age Group Rank = 8/15
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a GU to get some energy and a little water. Had the morning constitution. Twice. Should have known, by the feeling in the lower GI, that this was not going to be a good day.

Left and registered at the event. Cool hats for participants.
Event warmup:

Ran 1/2 mile at a little slower than pace and then worked in some faster strides. Got back to the park and did 4x15 strides.

Comments:

Absolutely horrible race. For me. 1/2 mile in I got a side cramp. But not those normal cramps you get under your ribs. This one was low and on the right. GI issues. Oh boy.

At around the 1 mile point, my breathing was labored. Not labored like it should be, but wheezy. My HR was all over the place and I couldn't get a good breath. At least, not the kind I should have been able to get.

At around mile 2, I almost puked. Started getting some dry heaves. Legs were leaden. I was coming apart at the seams. So I pulled the plug. It was my second 5k in a week, but something was just not right. Not right at all.

Cruised into the finish at over 25. I'm way faster than that. Disappointed, but with whatever was wrong, I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

I have no idea.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Debriefed with Beth and then talked to Jay a bit. He is doing the ICC Superweek in Olympia Fields next weekend so we are going to go watch him race. That will be awesome.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm adding this part on Saturday, the day after the race. I figured it out. I have food poisoning. Actually, we both do. We woke up on Saturday morning with the exact same GI issues. We both were rotating in the bathroom. Nothing major. Just can't keep anything in for very long. It essentially is going straight through me. So THAT is a pretty good limiter.

Event comments:

Nice local race. Will do it again next year, if anything to be able to get a better time. :)

You ran, with food poisoning, faster than I can run when healthy.  That's not bad.   Hope you feel better soon.

No kidding. Sorry for both the sucky stomach and the sucky race!

At least you got a cool hat?

Hope you and Beth feel better soon.
