Total Time = 1h 41m 12s
Overall Rank = 40/116
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/13
Pre-race routine:

Can't call it a routine. Camped out on site with family (wife and 5 kids). Sleep was non-existent! Woke 10-12 times from 10:45 to 5:30 with every noise. Body felt surprisingly good given condition.

1 ensure, 1 shot not enough but all I felt like eating

Event warmup:

Rode .2 mi to trans area and jogged back to camp. stretching before start
Run
  • 23m 47s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

First Du so I held back on the first run. Could have gone faster but still was better than goal of 24:30
What would you do differently?:

Go out quicker. No mile marker so hard to judge pace. Buy a garmin!
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

I thought this was a great T1 until I looked at the standings 45 of 116. Need to be quicker.
What would you do differently?:

Yank the socks and have a 2nd pair prepped for 2nd run. Tri next race with shoes locked in.
Bike
  • 52m 2s
  • 17 miles
  • 19.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Forgot to check breaks so I stopped on the beginning of the bike. In the end that 30 sec cost me 4 positions.
What would you do differently?:

Check out gear in tran area before race. Silly mistake!
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Great dismount but then the bike bit me. Tran are was bumpy and my front wheel took a hard left into me. Ended up picking up the bike backwards and carrying it to the rack. 15 of 116
What would you do differently?:

Steer with handle bar not seat!
Run
  • 23m 15s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

The run is my limiter. Gave it all and got passes with .2 to go by a guy in my age grp. Had to pee from T2 on. Almost stopped on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I did a good job of picking people out to reel in but was not aggressive enough. Push on when dead!
Post race
Warm down:

Walket to camp to use bathroom and shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight. I see a trend!

Event comments:

No porta potties and very limited bathrooms. Only 2 male toilets (one in camp area) plus 2 urinals. If this race goes on again at this venue they need additional toilets!!!!

Good job! Interesting course too. Camping at the race site takes a whole 'nother level of determination too!
