mr2tony - 2008-07-07 3:42 PM So MRS2Tony and I went to the Olympic swimming trials this weekend and I had a few random thoughts: ... Why the heckfire are these people only wearing one pair of goggles?
Amen to THAT!
I'm really confused. How do you NOT wear only one pair of goggles? Can you put two pairs on at once?

in wicked tri swimming, it's good to have an extra pair.  I wish I did twice this year.    The man knows what he's talkin' about.    Ya know, it's like Australian rules football... in the water.

And who is Mr. 2?   The one and only......

Look real close at the OP's avatar; specifically what's around his neck. Check out his album if the avatar is too small.

mr2tony - 2008-07-07 2:42 PM So MRS2Tony and I went to the Olympic swimming trials this weekend and I had a few random thoughts: ...
How the heckfire are these people so danged fast??? ...
How the heckfire are these people so danged fast and make it look so danged easy!? ...
How the heckfire do I learn to swim that fast???

I think your second question really answers your first...they're so fast because it's so easy (efficient).

We plow through the water taking 50 seconds and 40 strokes to cover 50 meters.  They slide through the same 50 meters in 23 seconds taking 25 strokes.

I've been training with visor style goggles. Should I rethink that in the future?

Some DBAG who wears two pair of goggles on the swim, the bike and, oh yes, the run:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

But can't swim less than 2 mins/mile.

Anyway ... my boss' son trains at North Baltimore and his son is allegedly blazing fast in the water. I dont think they really take in just anybody so he's probably not slow.

When I was watching the coverage the other night, those showed an under water clip of Phelps swimming.  It was amazing watching his kick and seeing how stremlined his body was.  It was amazing, yet depressing at the same time knowing that I will never be THAT efficient of a swimmer.

They also mentioned how big his feet were and that they worked like flippers.  and that he has awesome ankle flexibility.  I never thought having large feet would be an advantage to a sport.
