Subject: An open letter to Baggyman

EDITED

The situation has been resolved.

We don't need people reading the story and sending hate mail without looking at his response.

WOW. That's just wrong on so many levels.

Pay up man. Grow some balls and pay what you owe.

Dang... saying you were injuried and then RACING? Didn't it cross your mind that someone might review the RESULTS? DUH!

Stupid.

wow, I can't believe that someone actually had to get outed publicly like that. Just to play devil's advocate, but we don't know his side of the story. I am just saying that, so please don't attack me.

Well, it sounds like he's had ample opportunity to tell Laura his side of the story, and failed to do so. Now here is additional opportunity to tell his story in this thread if he so choses.

Not attacking you.

I gave him 10 days in an original PM to get in contact with me. I saw he read the message, but he has made no effort to contact me. I told him at that point that if he didn't respond, I'd post it on the forums.

He didn't respond, so I posted it on the forums, like I said I would.

Here's the thing. BT is not "THAT" kind of place. We don't attack each other, we aren't (generally) pissy to each other, and each and every person I've met thus far has been awesome in their own right.

That's why I didn't really think twice when I fronted $4500 for a rental house in Idaho, for a bunch of people on the internet.

I've been on this site for over 4.5 years. I like it here. I've already received PM's from BT'ers offering to pay to make up the difference. People that didn't even GO to Idaho, or have anything to do with the race at all! That's the kind of place this is.

So no, no one will attack you.

And I'd like to hear what Baggyman has to say, actually.

what happened to the threads on the other forums?

Oh well, he logged today so I find hard to believe he is not aware of the situation/threads which can just leads us to believe he is avoiding to provide any explanation at all. He could just PM whizzz, get this straight up by paying, request whizzz to get the threads pulled and voila all back to normal. But choosing to remain silent just make him look bad (to avoid using other adjectives...)

Indeed.  It's the complete silence ( not the lack of paying ) that is the most disturbing/frustrating.

A simple PM saying I'm having a rough time, and can't pay you now ( if that's the case ) anytime in the past few weeks, and we'd not be here today reading this thread.

He reads the PMs asking for the courtesy of a reply, but no reply ever comes.

No explanation of why he committed but didn't show up.  We were wondering up until the day of the race if he was going to show up at the house or not, since the only contact we had was a brief message that he was possibly injured and not sure if he was racing ( 2 days before we all left for CdA ).  Apparently he did show up and race, so he stayed somewhere.

I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, he just needs to let us know what the story is.

What a loser.  Thanks for posting it on the "Arizona" forum Whizzzzz!

It was on there long enough to let us other Arizonan's know to stay away from him.  For the most part, we're a pretty close-knit group and he's definitely NOT invited!

It's not like if someone so was inclined, that they couldn't get his real name from the IMCdA thread, and his email address is out there already.  Although I don't know what they'd do with it.

Very strange behavior.  I hope that you get your money, or at the very least, an explanation which sounds at least halfway plausible.

What happened to Baggyman at IMCdA. Everything that Whizz has posted is correct. I have nothing to say to refute the statements that were posted. This is what has happened to me during the last month. I don’t post this as a defense as to my action or lack there of but as an explanation. It will be my one and only post on the topic and my last one here on BT (I know like that is a loss after this right?)

I am not happy with the way I handled the situation, I feel very poorly about it but in my life at this time it is very low on my list of things that I have the time or energy to care much about. My divorce was going to be final on April 23rd until my now ex-wife decided to try and get full custody of our 2 boys. Then the typical battle ensued and I had to retain a lawyer and begin working through her to get my divorce settled and keep my kids. At that time everything took a back page… my training… my finances (if you have ever retained a lawyer you know). I still had every intention of going and staying in the community house. As the weeks went on and my money situation got worse and worse I questioned if I could afford to go at all…. Then the Plantar issues came up. My doctor told me to quit running altogether until I could get to a Podiatrist. I cant listen to that because I have a race was all I could think of at the time so I continued to train what little I could.

I realize that at any time I could have called Whizz but it all seemed to snowball on me and my life seemed out of control. Still not an excuse, not a defense, not a crock of , just what happened. My mom said that if I went she would be happy to let me have the room that she rented in Spokane so that I could race. So I went with her, my boys, my brother, my stepfather and we all shared that room there at the Comfort Inn.

I did finish my race 13:39 --- but that is no where near what I should have ran if I was not injured… just check my marathon time. I am now working with my doctor for my PF trying to get it worked out…. My divorce is final and I do have custody of my 2 boys….. My life will be back together someday.

I can only offer a sincere apology to all that stayed in the house in CdA that week. I should have said something much sooner when things were starting to get bad. Would I like to pony up the money…? Yes I would…. Do I have the ability to do so? No. If I took a room away from someone that wanted to go and stay at the house I am sorry for that also.

To all the people that have sent me hate mail from this board…. Seriously do you think that threats, cussing me out, questioning my sexuality, or any of the other things that you have said hurt me in anyway???

I am sorry Wizz… you trusted me and I broke that. I have nothing else to say about this.

That took some character to post, Baggyman.  You admitted the fault, and made no excuses.  I wasn't even in the house and I appreciate that you finally came forward.  There is no reason to leave BT; you explained what happened.  I would be willing to bet that if you offered to pay $20 a month until the thing was paid off, the folks in the house would appreciate it, and everyone would move on.

We are all human; we all make mistakes; we all go through hard times.  This sport, and especially this site, is full of people willing to help out.  Did you handle this situation poorly up until now?  Yep.  Will you be forgiven?  Yep.

As for those who sent hate mail; shame on them.  A friendly encouragement to come forward is one thing, but cussing you out, etc. is against the spirit of the site and is uncalled for.

Stick around, rebuild the friendships you have made on here, and make good on the debt, even if it is in small increments.  Oh, and more importantly, congrats on getting custody of your kiddos, and I hope you are able to move forward with some positive momentum.

p.s. - a 13:39 time at CDA is pretty darn good as well.

My original statement was to "man up".  You have appeared to have done that in word.  I think the last poster had a lot of really good things and you should greatly consider what he had to say.  Thank you for coming forward.  It seems you have lost a lot in the past month, year, etc.  Seems a waste now to lose the friends you have made on this wonderful site.  Make amends with Wizzzzz and stick around.

We humans are such odd and funny creatures.

Human, as defined in Merriam Websters dictionary, as an adjective:  susceptible to or representative of the sympathies and frailties of human nature <such an inconsistency is very human>.

To err is human (for sure) and to forgive is divine.

Sorry to hear about your divorce Baggyman.  Divorce, especially when young children are involved, is one of the most stressful events a person can go through.

Perhaps in the future, when you get back on your feet again, you can make right with the faulted financial commitment.

I still can't figure out why he couldn't have sent a PM at minimum and bailed out, opening the room and letting everyone know at the time, to say you dropped the ball would be an understatement.

A lot of us know how tough divorce can be, thankfully I didn't have kids 16 years ago when I went through it, but it was still expensive. I just wasn't willing to hose anyone else over during that time as I needed the support of those around me and wouldn't have broken anyone's trust that let me spend a night on there couch, had me over for drinks or dinner to help brake up that depressing time of my life until my ex finally moved out of my house.

Whizz feel like setting up a paypal account, if folks send you a little $$$ you'll have that paid off in no time, and donate any extra after expenses to your favorite charity, etc.

Just a thought.

X2.

Whizz, you acted in good faith based on your trust in the BT community, and should not have to incur a financial loss because of it. The better members of this community would be happy to make a small donation to restore that faith and make you financially whole again.

It takes a lot of trust and no small amount of work to organize and arrange a "BT house" for these kinds of events. But they are fun, add to the event, and can even save a few bucks.  I would hate to see this practice ends because of one bad incident.
